  • Hoke just learned from Lloyd, who learned from Bo. Avoid bulletin board mateiral at ALL costs.

    • Either Hoke was speaking from the heart or he was just lying. Which would make him a LIAR.

Blatant lying in order to get some sort of competitive advantage? That doesn't sound like any kind of Michigan Man I know...Bo wouldn't stand for shit like that

      • I'd say you're grasping at straws, but that would be an insult to the straws.

        • DSL, I have to give you credit ... that's good stuff.

As others have said, credit to you and Regel for sticking here and going toe to toe.

Don't blame you of course for the position you're taking, though like most non-O-state posters here and elsewhere, I agree to disagree.

          • Coach Hoke has no personal knowledge of what's going on in Saint Jim's pea-sized brain. Hoke is simply being gracious to a man that he's probably met at NCAA meetings, conference meetings, etc.

I can understand your confusion, Strangelove. Graciousness has always been a foreign concept to the Schmucknut football program.

            • It's my understanding that Coach Hoke has met Coach Tressel on several occasions and has come away mightily impressed. Some might even describe it as a sense of awe. Whatever it is, it has caused Mr. Hoke to publicly express admiration for the man. Either Jim has completely bamboozled your pea-brained new coach or maybe you should listen to what he has to say. Coach Hoke just might be on to something. Maybe he's got a slightly better insight into what makes a great man like Jim Tressel tick.

I'd pay attention. You just might become a better person.

                • Can someone explain what the "show-cause" is? When does the NCAA invoke this?

                  • OSU's memorabilia fire sale tarnished the pristine Big Ten name?

No. Its osu's subsequent action/inaction, its failure to hold its coach accountable, and continuing to drag it out to this day that is tarnishing the Big Ten. A Stanford grad at my office has been tossing around the comment that osu shows that the BT is no better than the SEC. Ouch.

As I sit here in scenic Terre Haute IN, reading the Tribune Star, I notice the last sentence in the wire service story on Tressel-gate that I did not read in other wire service stories:

"It was only when ohio state began appealing the players' suspensions that it uncovered the e-mails, leading to Tressel ultimately receiving a five game suspension and a $250,000 fine."

So, if osu would have sacked up and accepted its punishment stoically, Tressel and osu would have this whole affair essentially done with and behind them? This implies that St Jim didn't feel bad enough to 'ask' for 3 additional games to be added to his suspension until after the emails came to light? If true, the stench just gets worse and worse.

                    • one of my fellow OSU alum brothers said it best:

I guess I feel that allowing your players extra practice time is far more of a competitive advantage than allowing them to get some extra spending money for selling their own property.

I guess we have a difference in opinion on what constitutes a competitive advantage on the football field. I don't recall any UM players or coaches being suspended for practice gate even though one of the staffers lied for RRod to the NCAA.

This is not a pay for play scheme or a violation of amateurism. Additionally, this is not something any student athlete could do. In the entire B1G only OSU players could benefit from this, since they are the one's who won these items on the field of play. If their parents sold the items and gave them the money is it still a violation?

The staffer who lied to the NCAA was fired. RR was fired because he lost football games.

I am sure a low level staffer wasn't protecting his higher ups...regardless. I will gladly take the same penalty UM did. For what is obviously a far more serious competitive advantage. Add that to the most henous of all pay for plays schemes...Ed Martin, and it is a wonder I hear all this crap from the UM faithful...

Again my issue is with the nature of the crime involved as well as the obvious hypocrisy in the media's reporting.

                      • Practigate was a fart in the wind, compared to tressel's s#@$fest.

What I find sad is that players are no longer 'old school' when it comes to pride in their university. Selling their gold pants pin given for beating UM!?! I would think that would be something to cherish, something to hand down to their children. Or something to be attached to the lapel of their funeral suit. If you care that little for your school, go play for Miami (Fla) or some other Douche Bag U and stay the hell away from the Big Ten.

Yeah, but it would be nice if the arguments were a little bit more credible. Soon we're gonna be in ``I know you are but what am I?'' territory.

                              • Just a thought -- OSU's insistence on hanging on to Tressell perhaps is an indication Meyer isn't coming? I mean, surely were I Gee and Smith, I would have by now discreetly reached out to Meyer through third parties to see if he'd come. And if he would, the smart move and hopefully the one that helps you to avoid lasting penalties is to can Tressell.
