  • Another reason Tressel doesn't report this is that the rabbit hole is deeper than just the Tat 5, maybe he (Tatoo guy) has been connected to the OSU program for as long as Antonio Pittman says and the scope gets much larger.

    • This is such a beautiful story to watch unfold. And the great part? There will be even more bad news in the weeks and months to follow for OhNo. It's absolutely so satisfying...........

      • Yup. Liney's right -- the wins are all they have left. And those might not stick around either.

Right, that was kind of what I meant with saying he was just used to covering stuff up already. If this thing is even deeper than we currently know about, then that would be a reason to risk covering it up, because even self-reporting it would lead to eventual disaster anyway.

I really don't care about a team giving up past victories. Put an asterisk by them, sure but I'd rather see them lose scholarships.

On a side note it sucks for the pistons if Sullinger doesn't go pro either... basically means they lose a spot in the nba draft as there will be one less player to choose from.

And while I reserve my basketball sports hate for Bo Ryan as an MSU fan, and part of me doesn't want other coaches to match Izzo's accomplishments, but I do wish the Big Ten wasn't out of the tourney at this point though.
Everyone seems to think this is a weak draft anyway so if the Pistons don't luck their way into the top pick (and take Kyrie Irving), it's going to be a crap shoot regardless of whether Sully comes out or not.

                • Report: Tressel sent emails to Pryor's mentor;

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that when Tressel received the famous emails of warning regarding his players selling memorabilia to a local tattoo parlor, he forwarded them to a man close to star quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Ted Sarniak, 67, is described as "a prominent businessman in Pryor's hometown of Jeanette, Pa." Sarniak has acted as Pryor's mentor and advisor since high school, and reportedly was the recipient of the warning emails when they were forwarded by Tressel.

                  • Tressel keeps talking about "protecting his players", and that's probably the most truthful thing he's said. He was protecting them from losing eligibility. Now, its blown up in his face, and rightly so.

He came on board at OhNo with his Leave It To Beaver look, and his innocent "pride on the field, and pride in the classroom" bullcrap, and turned out to be just like Pete Carroll, Barry Switzer, and all the others who have broken the rules in the name of winning.

I say again. If Jim Tressel were truly the man of 'integrity' that he paints himself to be, his first phone calls after hearing about the potential violations, would have been to his own compliance officer, the athletic director, and the university president. Those people would have then self-reported to the NCAA, and opened their doors to an unfettered investigation of the situation.

Instead, he tried to cover it up like Nixon/Watergate.

                    Such pride!

                    • The Schmucks only self-report the hundreds of minor violations to make themselves look as though they're in compliance. The major violations are covered up. Bo would have kicked all five off the team as soon as their actions were confirmed. Woody, too, probably.

                      • He didn't need to kick them off the team, he just needed to let the NCAA know about the situation so that THEY could declare what their eligibility would be (or wouldn't be).

As much as we all detested Woody, one thing you could never say about him, was that he'd run his program by cheating. Win or lose, his team was going to pound on Michigan, all day long. And, he'd do it all well within the rules. No borderline crap. I remember seeing Woody pull players off the field, if they got too emotional or out of control.

Bo was the same way, but not so with JT.

I agree with Rocky. I think both Woody and Bo would have kicked those players right off the team. They wouldn't wait for the NCAA to take action.

                          • Bo or Woody would be far less likely to have these kinda kids on the team anyways. Were either of them recruiting Terelle Pryor, they both probably would have lost to a program willing to put up more money at the front end of the deal. We've gone from Ten-Year War to Ten-Year Fraud.

                            • The e-mail to the Pryor mentor/handler has ratcheted up the stench level.
We'll see if the NCAA actually makes an earnest effort to see how far the rabbit hole goes and if the barriers Tressel has erected to cover up various improprieties start to crack.
If it turns out there are many eligibility violations over the past 10 years, many of the 'Vests victories over M could be vacated ---- the Buckfans take so much pride that Tressel erased the damage done by the Cooper era --- isn't it great that that is all now called into question?

I don't really care what happens to O-state, but I do hope things work out as well as possible for M. It may be better for M if a wounded O-state program retains Tressel for a period of time with significant damage to O-state recruiting. We need to make recruiting inroads to bring our football program out of the doldrums, and hopefully this is just what the doctor ordered.
