Yeah, that 24 point loss to Iowa was a real season-changer.

      Playoff bound!

The refs are to blame for OSU’s loss to Oregon! Never the Buckeyes’ fault. Blame others!

NCAA hits him with a 4 year show cause because they can't stand his humble and sincere Christianity.

And right after all this happens, all the wrongly accused cheaters are gone, the program suddenly stinks like it's 2020 again. What a coincidence.
Nobody claims Weiss, Stalions and Partridge did nothing wrong. Harbaugh had been trying to get back into the NFL for years.

Weiss improperly accessed another university employee’s emails and was fired. Stalions was participating in an advance in-person scouting operation and resigned when it came to light. Partridge was fired for telling people in the program to not talk to the NCAA.

Even though the scouting scandal is a Level 2 or 3 violation, the University of Michigan holds its staffers to the highest standards of accountability. Leaders and Best.

Entering play today the Los Angeles Chargers lead the NFL in scoring defense at 12.5 ppg. Maybe those guys are just really good at coaching football.

I'd take Jesse Minter back right now if he was interested in returning, and I'd give him whatever dollar amount and benefits he requests.

            • He ain’t coming back. Dealing with NIL and the portal is going to drive a lot of coaches out of CFB.

              Comment

              • I think most of us that have been watching CFB for a while, and M football in particular, aren't at all happy with what's happening to the game. High costs of attendance, unregulated NIL and the portal do underly decreasing fan enjoyment of the experience and to the declining quality of the game itself.

Coaches have to be dismayed by all of that too and the workload that year around recruiting involves isn't exactly a big draw. Salaries are for top level guys, for sure. But an accounting of the cost to a coaches lifestyle v. benefits gained, if coaches are looking beyond $$$$, renders CFB coaching not altogether that attractive.

That pretty much explains the exodus of Harbaugh, and most of the key staff he had at Michigan, to the NFL. Top level salaries, stable rosters and a reasonable work life compared to CFB coaching explains why guys career focused on coaching football, use the college game as an unpleasant stepping stone to the pros. We're just seeing the start of the impact of the list of negatives on the CFB game.

Given the complexity of designing fixes and the general level of apparent incompetence in designing and implementing those fixes makes things going downhill from here a more likely outcome than the game getting better.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                • Washington went from the title game and consensus #2 team in 2023 to 4-3. What gives?!

Alabama looks inept when compared to years past and their expectations. I wonder what caused this…

To keep it appropriate for the thread: Ohio State went from 6-7 Fickell to 12-0 under Meyer in the following season. A significant change in coaches and players. What a coincidence!

                    • No. 2 Oregon had 12 men on the field late in its 32-31 win over No. 4 Ohio State, with the resulting penalty causing precious seconds to wind off the clock. “We spend an inordinate amount of time on situations and some situations don't come up very often in college football, but this was obviously something we had worked on,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said Monday night. Oregon took the lead with 1:47 left on Atticus Sappington’s 19-yard field goal in Saturday night's game, giving the Buckeyes time to drive down the field for a potential winning field goal.

Outfoxed by Dan Lanning. To steal a line I heard on the radio yesterday: Ran Day is the Michael Jordan of James Franklins.

                      • I personally thought the OPI was not a good call. If you intentionally put 12-men on the field, it's a 15-yard penalty and the clock goes back to where it was. And, honestly, I know there's a 10 second run-off for an offensive penalty in that situation -- I think for a defensive penalty the clock should reset. Doesn't do OSU any good, but that's what I'd do.

But, mostly Ohio State killed themselves with stupid plays that stopped drives. And Burke was absolutely garbage. That's about it.

But, CRD is a terrible coach. I tried telling everyone here OSU would be 9-3 at best. No one listened. It's clear I'm right.

                        • And Ohio State lost their only credible OT for the season. So, yeah -- they're completely fucking fucked.

                          • Wiz - isn't there a live ball illegal participation penalty, and also a dead ball 12 men on the field penalty, or are they one and the same? I've been out of officiating for about 6 years now so I can't remember.
