  • Nice Week 13 wrap-up from CBC Sports:

Loser: Ohio State coach Ryan Day

Buckeyes coach Ryan Day is 56-7 at Ohio State. He also has now failed to win a Big Ten title for three straight seasons, the longest stretch in a decade. After Saturday, he is also the first Ohio State coach since John Cooper to lose three straight games against Michigan. Worse, Day is 1-6 against AP top 5 opponents.

Simply put, Day is a bizarre case study of a coach who has won everything except the games that matter for three full seasons. There are few precedents. But after losing on Saturday and likely missing a second CFP in three years, Day is firmly on the hot seat in Columbus, Ohio.

To make matters worse, it was Day's signature offense that failed in key spots. Quarterback Kyle McCord, a former five-star recruit, threw two backbreaking interceptions in the loss. Now, Day will go into next season without the best wide receiving duo in the nation (Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka). Everything is suddenly on the table.

    • Harrison says he wants to come back so he can beat Michigan. Would he give up the NFL $$ to come back for one game? Some say that OSU can match in NIL what he could make as a rookie in the NFL. Making it worth his while.

Will he stay or will he go?

      • It would be colossally stupid for him to come back but given his choice of school, it tracks.

                    • There's a thread at mgoboard regarding the allegedly illegal access to "cut-ups" produced by a company called Catapult Sports (Never heard of them). Reportedly this company creates CFB game films that become the property of Catapult Sports. Catapult Sports then grants access to these films to only the school that is the subject of them. Allegedly, local authorities and the NCAA are investigating the unlawful access by school A to school B's "cut ups." It isn't clear how this access was obtained but Catapult Sports said yesterday there was no security breach of their files.

It is this circumstance that caused both Alabama and Michigan to restrict use of iPads by players to review game film. Players can only access game films from program computers inside practice facilities and offices. The sports media and Alabama fan blogs were quick to allege this was all about allegations that Michigan had been stealing signs and that Matt Weis had tipped UAT off about how this was being done. This story is not at all about M's signgate. It's about the potential for illegal access to Catapult Sports cut-ups. My guess is that the alleged illegal access involves hacking streamed data.

The rumor is that OSU is one of the teams that was doing this during the '23 season and is the team, among others (not Michigan) that is being investigated for the alleged hacking of protected Catapult Sports data. At this point the details are all very murky and may be just fan talk on X. But, man, this would be hilarious if OSU was found to have tampered with Catapult Sports game film of future OSU opponents.

BTW, OSU loss to Missouri last night adds to their 2-13 bowl record v. SEC teams. Not unexpectedly MHJ didn't suit up but was on the sidelines. With McCord gone OSU was down to its bench warming QBs. That didn't go well. I don't feel bad for OSU at all ..... not even a little.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                        • I thought OSU had about 8-9 five-star QB's on their roster, that are like USB plugs. Unplug one, plug in the new one. Simple. The kid that finished the game wasn't that bad, but its too bad for OSU that they ran the kid off campus that brought them 11 wins this year.

                          You guys are very unforgiving.

Your head coach still has not lost 10 games in his entire tenure, yet some are calling for his head today. No wonder he was running up and down the sidelines begging for calls. He should probably move on to a school where he's more appreciated for his efforts.

                            • The defense played very well vs. a every good offense. Just wore out the last drive. But the offense looked like they didn't prepare one bit the last month. That's usual for an offense happy coach. At least a pass happy coach.
