9-3 in the B1G or SEC might get you into the 12-team CFP. Hopefully, 9-3 in the B1G/SEC is regarded as better than 10-2 from the ACC/Big XII and 11-1 from say the Sun Belt, American, Mountain West.

Last year two 3-loss teams would have gotten in, albeit, they won their CCGs anyway, Utah and K-State. Had they not won those games, #13 FSU, #14 Oregon St. and #15 Oregon were sitting there at 9-3. There will definitively be 9-3 teams getting into the playoff but they'll need A) a strong strength of record, and B) help.
