  • M's offense shit away so much good field position that it defies logic, or at least it defies what I saw, to think the offense played well.

Agree enthusiastically. Michigan's offense leaves tons on the table. This is far from a solved problem, even though it's trending right. But even without that, the big-play capacity is so much higher than in the past two years -- put Patterson out there with DPJ and Collins and given a solid running game, they're going to hit on enough big plays as long as the defense is past its end-game collapses.

This isn't enough to beat OSU or do anything in the CFP. Maybe the CCG. On the bright side, 7-1 with solid hopes for a Rudock-like second half of the season for a much more talented player -- that's a solid position to be in. If by late November M regularly leaves on the table half the points it does now, that's quite nice.

    • Just to be clear, the comment about M's 2018 offense playing well was made in comparison to 2017's offense. The comment was also made in the context of trying to understand why osu's offense is playing poorly in 2018 as compared to M's 2017 offense.

The incompleteness of M's offense this season as compared to, say, the offenses of other play-off contenders is pretty clear. It's good enough though, according to Fancy Stats, to beat PSU by a TD (up from a toss-up) in Ann Arbor and osu by 3 in the shoe (up from a loss by 2). That's a five point swing in the case of osu. I'm pretty happy with that regardless of any holes that M's O may have right now.

        • You think?

If you've not had time on your hands to peruse the web that contains all kinds of Michigan hype, most notably from FOX segments that feature Joe Klatt, here's one stat I love:

.......... OSU has given up more 30 yd+ plays than any team in the country except Kent State and UConn.

I know talent isn't into speculating about locker room talk but, when M was having problems on the OL in 2017, by mid-season, it was pretty obvious that there were issues that went beyond, coaching and player experience and skill sets. Something just wasn't right and in retrospect, it became clear that there was tension between Drevno and Frey and probably Harbaugh. That stuff filters down to the players who look at conflict like this and go fuck-it.

I think that's going on within the osu program and probably on a couple of levels. It will be interesting to watch how that team plays leading up to The Game and I'll be watching closely. TIFWIW.

          • I know talent is said even though he says he's not. As Mark Dantonio said, BS. So, I'm starting osu week early. I'm calling it osu month where I taunt the shit out of down osu team. And this will persist until some weird shit happens and M loses like to PSU or something worse, a Mike Debord involved Indiana.

I'm also pretty sure that talent is doing other things than reading up on future opponents, like Michigan, or on osu because he is sad. So, I'm posting this here for him to read because it is good and it is funny and has a modicum of sass to it.

            Fuck osu.

I am also fully aware that should M stumble before or during The Game, pay pack will be a mother fucker. I'll take the chance. This is from mgo's Opponent Watch article: Ohio State (7-1, 4-1 B1G)

This team is as frightening as: I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked through Columbus at dusk looking for an MS Paint. Fear Level = 9

                  • Hello, Bo. Welcome back, Woody

Bo and Woody are back, thanks to Jim Harbaugh and Mark Dantonio. Michigan and Michigan State coaches spark a true rivalry with real and raw emotions.

                    Comment

                    • It's an in-state rivalry between two CFB teams. That is all it is. Mark Dantonio is no Woody Hayes. He's not even close.

Until osu's recent win streak, Michigan and osu made up the Big Ten with the rest, including MSU, making up the Little Ten. The lost decade of RR and Hoke got extended as Harbaugh got done what he needed to get done in years 1-3. That did not include beating osu. However, the traditional dichotomy in the Big East was simply waiting to be restored.

Hopefully in year 4 order will be restored, the pendulum will start to swing back M's way and the teams in the Little Ten will take thier rightful place behind the BIGs.

The Game will be a renewal of the traditional battle for the BTChampionship It won't be easy and even with osu seemingly struggling, it's on the road and this game will save osu's season if they beat a better Michigan team and ruin M's. meyer will be ready.

The thought that MSU has elevated it's game to the level of Woody and Bo is foolish sports journalism and the Freep at it's usual standard of shit on a stick.

                      • What a lame article. There are many differences between the two rivalries. A sample: Bo was a Woody disciple. There was actual respect, admiration, and affection between the two men. Bo built his program to mirror that of his mentor. During the game, the players would hit each other hard, but there were no cheap shots. Neither team cried about a lack of recognition from the other.
