talent, what do you think of this take from Matt Tamanini of LandGrantHolyLand.com on the 2018 buckeyes? Josh LaFond of Maize and Brew did this interview with him as part of his M 2018 season opponent's preview. I found the comments on Kevin Wilson's decreasing role in the 2018 offense (2017, Barrett, IZ oriented) with Haskins at QB and Day's increasing role (2018 offense pocket passer/RPO oriented) interesting.

They really like Day. I'm not sure what the split is between him and Wilson, but they really wanted to keep him (he could have had the Mississippi State job, I think). Offensively, it'll be a considerably different feel with Haskins. DH can make all the throws, but he's not a good runner. So, UFM's crutch play is gone (assuming UFM is even back). I think they'll replace that look with lots more RPO and considerably more effective WR bubbles. Paris Campbell is a real weapon. Haskins can get him the ball in stride and quicker than JTB. They also have two great RBs with Dobbins being, IMO, special. Weber, though, is really good. He's way faster than I ever imagined he'd be. The key is going to be Center, IMO. We'll see if they can get good play out of Brady Taylor (I dunno) or if they'll have to move someone over (probably Jordan).
Defensively, Okudah is the star CB ready to breakout, not Sheffield. Sheffield is good, but Okudah is first round special. It's obvious to anyone that follows OSU that the LBs are the singular defensive issue both in terms of starting quality and depth. I can tell you they love Tuf Borland, who was missed last year with an ACL (I think). They think Browning is an athletic freak, but he's still learning the position. But, by and large that position is a question mark. The DL, obviously is not. The secondary shouldn't be (but, Coombs was fantastic).
But to get back to Haskins/JTB. It's a higher ceiling/lower floor situation. JTB's floor was pretty much good enough to win the B10. With OSU's defense and his ability to extend drives on shitty 4 yard runs, that was enough to win enough B10 games. But, against a killer DL/Defense -- which you're going to see in the CFP -- he isn't good enough to win. Haskins could easily lose more conference games, but he also has the arm to stretch a great defense and give OSU a chance to effectively move the ball.
Anyway, it's sort of secondary at the moment.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Thanks ...... just trying to get you to think positively. Did a good job ...... for about 3 minutes.
I think you are right about the concerns you have the ufm gets fired. A week ago, I was convinced the facts we had access to made a firing almost impossible for the osu intelligentsia to justify. Now? I'm not so confident. There are so many ways that this gets fucked up.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. Well, yes, and you and I both know with some certainty based on experience, that things like this taking place in big bureaucracies rarely work out well in the end. It takes strong leadership to advance the correct positions and academia is sorely lacking in that department.
At M when Brandon was clearly in trouble after Concussiongate, the Regents and the President's office waffled. Finally after a lot of stumbling around, typical for the M administrations, President Schlissel announced Jim Hacket would be appointed interim AD. How that decision came to pass is shrouded in mystery. But Stephen Ross (not a Regeant but M's biggest donor) and Denise Ilitch (a current Reagent) advanced Hackett's name with Ross already involved in getting Harbaugh to M to replace Hoke who, at the time, was still employed as M football's HC.
Jim Hacket was a breath of fresh air and I believe his sole mission, at the direction of mainly the Reagents, was to rehab M's football program and the disasters of Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke. Despite Dr. Schlissel's saying that football was important but not the consuming reason for M's existence, enough people around him understood that M football became the front porch to the U under Don Canham and remained so until it got destroyed by two successive bad coaching hires and an incompetent Dave Brandon. That entire episode falls into the category of, yes, this shit can happen. So, yes it can happen at osu too.
Remains to be seen if Harbaugh can resurrect M football to national prominence but chances are a lot better now than they were 5 years ago. TBH, I hope osu's BoT fucks this up. Heh.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; August 9, 2018, 02:32 PM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. I'd love to know more about the internal BoT workings, but there's no doubt they really like Meyer, as do the folks like Ross, who write the checks that matter. I think it's either going to be (a) convincing the people that really matter that UFM irreconcilably fucked up; or (b) coming up with as strong a case as they make for keeping him and hoping that the national blowback is minimized.
I think the more it's clear that UFM took the proper steps the more (b) gets dampened. There will still be a very loud "DV!!!!!, AHHHH!!!" crowd, but there will also be a sensible crowd.
Either way, the decision will be meant with blowback. There's just no way around it. If I had to guess right now, I think he probably comes back, but all persons involved in the decision to keep him on staff eat a suspension of some sort. Which will mean that anyone accused of DV has to be fired. That's that only "safe" step from a PR sense. It's tenuous from a legal perspective (i.e., firing someone w/ cause vs w/o cause -- does a mere allegation rise to w/ cause?). Now, if OSU actually wants people to assess these situations, report them up the chain and try to reach an decision that accords with the facts, then their will be no suspensions. I can't see that at all.
So, we'll see. I'm now at 55%.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

I lost this bet on Harbaugh coming to UM (I said no fucking way) so now with the summer coming to the end, I'll make this similar bet. Six pack of beer (up to $20.00) that Oscar Meyer keeps his job. I take he keeps job-you bet he does not. Hell, to make it interesting I'll give 2-1 odds for anyone taking his firing. (i.e you take firing and he's gone you get $40.00 worth of beer or any booze of your choice up to $40.00) Anyone who has bet me and won will verify I may be an asshole but I never stiff one on a bet) Bet is good until 8/15/2018 or before official announcement from OSU, whichever comes first.Last edited by UMStan White; August 10, 2018, 07:27 AM.
