Please support the Forum by using the Amazon Link this Holiday Season
Amazon has started their Black Friday sales and there are some great deals to be had! As you shop this holiday season, please consider using the forum's Amazon.com link (listed in the menu as "Amazon Link") to add items to your cart and purchase them. The forum gets a small commission from every item sold.
Additionally, the forum gets a "bounty" for various offers at Amazon.com. For instance, if you sign up for a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, the forum will earn $3. Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.
If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!
Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. This does not cost you anything extra and it helps offset the operating costs of this forum, which include our hosting fees and the yearly registration and licensing fees.
Stay safe and well and thank you for your participation in the Forum and for your support!! --Deborah

"crash is a wonderful person, really great. He gives me all the inside info. More than most people would like to know, like the invasion instructions for the UN that are written on the back of speed limit signs. Very bad. We're taking care of that tomorrow. Ohio State will pay for it."
Wiz though, is just terrible. Can't spell, knows none of my great words. Always constipated. Very sad. "

I love D.C. From a touristy standpoint. The memorials (STATUES!), Arlington, the Smithsonians, some decent restaurants, moderate weather, the Kennedy Center.

Thumbs up for spring and cultural offerings, big giant thumbs down for the food and for the other 48 weeks of the year. But, man, the museums go a long way to making it work, especially with young kids. And I can pop in the National Gallery and do a quick lifting of the spirits anytime. And it's great to be, for a while, on the Eastern Seaboard. Baltimore is wonderful and Philly has some very nice big-city value to it as well. On any given winter weekend there are 4-6 choices for small-school college-basketball games under 2 hours away and for which my kid and I can get in for under $20. I can definitely deal with it for now.

What do you like here?
It's allright. It has plenty to get you through. People like to talk as if it's a good food city though, and that pisses me off. Most stuff is mediocre. Ann Arbor has a greater number of quality places. That 14th Street strip, which should be good, is mostly mediocrity. If you want ethnic it potentially can be there -- certainly not Mexican -- but mostly in strip malls in the suburbs. You can't go downtown and have a stroll down 14th after a nice meal, unless you want mediocrity. I think in large part there's no room for smaller-scale stuff. Rent is too high for that. We do better finding interesting places in Baltimore.

There's a place in Baltimore that's basically a Sardinian mama cooking upstairs, and her sons serving downstairs to sidewalk tables. Prosciutto/spinach lasagna is greatest thing ever. Mushroom lasaqna is second-greatest. No liquor licence or corking fee. People bring coolers with beer, or go across to the liquor store for some wine. Panacotta dessert is OMG. They adore children. Can while away a whole summer evening like this.
DC just won't have stuff like that. No ethnic neighborhoods for them to have landed in years ago; too expensive now.
