  • Kudos to OSU for final TD in spring game. A class act!

    • Jacob Jarvis has been part of the OSU "family" for awhile. His story is here: http://btn.com/2017/04/15/watch-jaco...e-spring-game/ in the video.

He has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which confines kids to a wheelchair by their teens and is fatal by their 20s. Sadly, his younger brother also has DMD.

So, the B10 Journey picked up on the story in the link above. If you ever watch the Journey for the 2014 B10 CG, in the midst of all the scoring highlights, there's a kid they show a few times going crazy -- that's Jacob. He went to both playoff games that year. And, like most Buckeye fans, probably thought UFM should be fired for the MSU debacle the year after.

It's nice that UFM and OSU are doing this for Jacob, but it's not a story that makes me smile. It's just too sad.

      • On a happier note, last year OSU signed 11 kids in the top 70 of the 247 composite. They currently have 6 top 70 verbals with Brenton Cox deciding this week.

Of their current 7 verbals, all in the top 100, only 1 is from Ohio. the other 6 are from 5 different states.

        • I always get a kick out of these tributes.

I wonder if Michigan will do one....or if the admin is afraid that Harbaugh might run in and make the tackle inside the five?

              • Alright, my post-spring 2018 Recruiting Update.

Top 50 Players with legitimate OSU Interest
                (previous ranking in parens):

3 (5). Micah Parsons (DE)(PSU Verbal) (NLOID decision, IMO)
                4. Zamir White (RB) (ADDED) (It's going to be Georgia, IMO, but OSU is a legit player)
7 (8 ). Jackson Carmen (OT) (Still an OSU Lock)
                9. Anthony Cook (CB) (ADDED) (I actually think OSU leads big -- but LSU/Clemson will have their say)
13 (9). Taron Vincent (DT) (VERBAL)
21 (27). Teradja Mitchell (LB) (OSU or FSU...OSU folks feel really good...but, I dunno)
27 (21). Emory Jones (QB) (VERBAL)
                30 (32). Jaiden Woodbey (S) (VERBAL)
                32. Jaelen Gill (WR) (VERBAL)
47 (41). Houston Griffith (CB) (OSU or ?)
48 (86). Kamryn Babb (WR) (OSU or, I guess, M)
49 (43). Matt Jones (DT) (OSU or ? -- not entirely sure he's a take)

                51-100 w/ High OSU Interest:

53 (51). Austin Fontaine (DT) (OSU or ? -- Maryland will be in the mix, too)
                56. Brenton Cox (DE) (ADDED) (OSU or Georgia -- announces verbal shortly, will remain an issue until NLOID)
                57. Max Wray (OT) (ADDED) (VERBAL)
65 (53). Brian Snead (RB) (VERBAL)
69 (77). Jeremy Ruckert (TE) (OSU)
                86. Josh Proctor (S) (VERBAL)

Finally, Ohio Kids that are or will be "Takes" + OoS kids that OSU is a heavy favorite for:

103 (101). L'Christian Smith (WR) (Kentucky or any school that wants his a pure WR and not a hybrid)
117 (134). Dallas Gant (OLB) (OSU-ND battle...OSU in good shape)
                146. Verdis Brown (OG) (he's from Illinois at IMG...I think OSU is a strong position)
154 (175). Tyreke Smith (WDE/TE) (OSU or PSU)
219 (236). Christopher Oats (OLB) (OSU Lock)
248 (324). Aeneas Hawkins (DT) (from last post "he's going move up the rankings" -- hey, +76!)
                250. Freddie Scruggs (OG) (Pennsylvania kid...OSU has him, I think)

My take post-Spring, 9 months from NLOID -- heh --

                Locks: Carman (7), Vincent (13), E. Jones (27), Gill (32), Wray (57) Snead (65), Oats (219)
Very Strong Position: Woodey (30) (USC will be a player until NLOID), Griffith (47), Babb (48 ), M. Jones (49), Cox (56) Ruckert (69), Proctor (86), Gant (117), Scruggs (250)
Probably Leading: Parsons (3) (even PSU fans expect him to flip); Cook (9), Brown (146), T. Smith (154), Hawkins (248 )
In the game: White (4), Mitchell (21), Fontaine (53). Also, I still think there's an outside shot at Gaoteote (12).

I love doing these at various points in time to see exactly how wrong I was/how much things change over the course of the final year of the recruiting cycle.

                  • Thank you! The foregoing recruiting board is one of the reasons why UFM can lambasted once-great power programs by 60. Well, that and starting a QB that is a notch above a bad Fraternal Order of Police Over-35 Rec league backup.

                    • Micah Parsons decommitted over the weekend. I think OSU is in as good as position as any to land him, but this one will go to NLOID. DRAMA!

                        • I missed this last week but the 2019 home game with TCU has been cancelled. Replaced with Miami-OH. Just playing one game against TCU at Jerry World in 2018. Fine and all but the 2019 OOC officially sucks (Florida Atlantic, Cincinnati, Miami-OH).

Also announced another series with Washington way out in 2024-25

I might be guilty of using my Jump to Conclusions Mat but it sounds like another casualty of the nine conference game system.

                              • Yeah, in 2019 they are stuck with 5 B10 road games and, I think, had TCU on the road.

They're future schedules suggest they're not as concerned about it -- they have back-to-back years with Texas and ND (one home, one away) starting in 5 years.

But, I think in years when you're on the wrong end of the 5/4 home/away split for conference games, you probably really, really want 3 home OoC games.
