This must be the ultimate humiliation for Luke Fickel.
HC, Meyer steals his job, demoted to DC, then Co-DC and now this. I bet he now passes through a metal detector even when he's fetching coffee for the boys at the Woody "Shed" Hayes Center.
Meyer in 'uncharted waters' as Ohio State opens spring with roster worries
Dane Belbeck Mar 8, 2016 17:41
As Urban Meyer surveyed the field on the first day of spring practices Tuesday, he was struck by how drastically different Ohio State looks heading into the 2016 season.
"I counted 16 at least, guys that moved on to the NFL, or maybe more even," Meyer said during a press conference after practice. "I think we have 11 (injured) right now, guys we're counting on, that can't go full speed."
The Buckeyes entered the 2015 campaign as favorites to repeat as national champions, but a befuddling 17-14 home loss to Michigan State ended those chances.
Meyer still oversaw a prolific class of pro prospects, as nine underclassmen entered the NFL draft, in addition to a senior group that posted 50 wins in four seasons. All the turnover has created a unique atmosphere that's left one of college football's top coaches with question marks blotting his depth chart.
"This is uncharted waters for me, too," Meyer said. "With 11 guys out, that's the thing that kicks you in the teeth. If everybody's ready to go I think you could do that. But we're not."
Playing with a stacked roster the past few seasons, Meyer admitted to underutilizing some of his younger players.
"We had such depth and I hate wasting people's year of eligibility. So does our staff," the Ohio native and three-time national champion said. "That's a little imbalanced, but it's going to be good news around here in two years."
Ohio State's road back to the College Football Playoff isn't likely to get any easier. With Michigan and Penn State landing top recruiting classes, and Michigan State continuing to be a thorn in the Buckeyes' side, the Big Ten East should be hotly contested. With those challenges looming, Meyer's first task is to establish who plays where.
"Obviously, develop the depth chart. Schematically, we're not going to change much," Meyer said. "I think coach (Greg) Schiano is going to bring some new stuff, and offensively we're not going to change much at all. I'm not worried about that, I just want to see somewhat of a depth chart by the time we leave."

O-state is killing it on the 'crootin' trail ...as I said O-state will be CONSISTENTLY more talented than M as long as Urbz is there. Any win M gets will have to be because JH outcoached Urbz.
There are plenty of other names on the board. I also doubt they hold onto Shaun Wade. But even so, OSU has an outside chance at 300+ on the 247 Composite which is pretty much Alabama-Only territory.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

OSU's biggest recruiting question mark is QB. They took Danny Clark when he was a sophomore, and while he's perfectly fine, I think it's clear they can do much better.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

In recruiting "news" -- OSU offered Marvin Wilson the other day. Wilson is arguably the top player in the class and, regardless, a stud DT. Apparently, he's actually really interested in Ohio State. And, of course, LSU. I look forward to OSU being a hat on the table.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
