  • There have been a couple test cases. HARBAUGH!!!!'s best Stanford team got ass-fucking-raped by Oregon. And then the following year, when they still had Luck, ditto. Oh, and there's that whole UNDISPUTED CFP title for UFM and Ohio State last season.

But cast it however you like and ignore all evidence that doesn't support your view of the world...and make not mistake, your mind is completely and entirely made up on the matter. You're now just looking for anything to support it.

      That would be correct.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • Heh. I know you, Buchanan. Now that you're off the "wait and see" wagon, you're all-in and with that returns all your familiar trappings.

FTR, as I've said numerous times, I don't much care what system you run so long as you can move the ball and score points. I unequivocally think more possessions favors the better team, so tend to favor higher volume games, but that's certainly not the only way to win.

Anyway, I look forward to your weekly reports about how mediocre Ohio State is.

Somewhat of an overused exaggeration (by you) but if you're talking about the game in Eugene.

          Oregon 52 Standford 31

Of course no mention of the previous year when Stanford beat Oregon by not much of a differnt score.

          Stanford 51 - Oregon 42

And then the following year, when they still had Luck, ditto.

If I am correct, you conveniently left out the person who was not there? Named Jim Harbaugh? Kinda of a big difference... if you ask me.

          • It's an ongoing discussion re spread/power between Buchanan and I.

            So, to address your points:

            1. I tried to pick the two best Stanford versions of the power offense. IMO, Luck's final two seasons were those.

            2. If I were going to go back to 51-42, I'd include all Oregon-Stanford games under JH and point out that Oregon scored 183 points in 4 games against JH.

            3. I'd also note that Luck and JH had Oregon down 21-3 in 2011 before getting blitzed for a 49-10 run.

The point of all of this is that the "spread" was quite successful against JH and Stanford's very best "power" teams. Now, Shaw's post-Luck teams -- which, IMO, became even more power-oriented, won two in a row against Oregon and shut down their offense. I think those games are more germane discussion than the 51-42 game where Stanford didn't really slow down Oregon much. JMO.

            • Just once in our lifetime (or at least recent memory), I'd be nice to see Ohio State lose a game like today.

              It rarely happens.

              • IU?

Doubt it. IU is going to get hammered up front on offense.

                  I agree.
Should be 49 OSU, 17 IU. Something like that.

But one day it'd be nice to see OSU upset by a B10 team in the regular season... One day.
That 6-6 OSU season doesn't really count.
Yea, my Boilermakers beat them in 2009. Even though Purdue went 5-7 that year, they were a good team. They lost a couple heartbreakers early (like @ Oregon).

                        • IU takes their one and only lead for the game ... expect the Bucks to score the next 40 unanswered.

No, a win did result in a national championship... for BYU.

BYU beat a 6-5 Michigan team. Should have had to play a quality opponent. Jim Harbaugh broke his arm against Sparty that season.

                            • The one interesting thing about IU: Kevin Wilson's ( who is a former Oklahoma offensive coordinator) offense will remind you exactly of Oklahoma when Sam Bradford was there.
Sam Bradford, Demarco Murray, Ryan Broyles, Jermain Gresham, Phil Loadholt, and Lane Johnson were all players on are arguably the best offense in recent college football history (2008 Oklahoma). ... Coordinated of course by IU head coach Kevin Wilson.
