    • Location matters. If the game was outdoors at the Rose Bowl, I'd pick Oregon. Since it's indoors, where osu seems to play better, I'm picking the schmucks over the ducks.

        • Posted by talent above: "Fight the team across the field show them OHIO's here"

A little background: Being by far the oldest poster here, here's some insight on the rivalry in the remote past. I was a freshman on the UM campus in 49-50 and was rushing fraternities. The "rivalry" was every bit of intense then as it is today. OSU had managed to intimidate our guys a bit in the previous decade but Fritz Crisler had built a juggernaut after the war and it all came together at the season finale against the buckeyes in 1946. Final score UM 58 OSU 6!

As I was rushing the frat house I finally joined, I noted the group loved to sing and one of their staples was the OSU fight song (with modification). They stood around us freshmen and entertained us with a resounding rendition of "fight the team across the field show them OHIO's here", All very traditional until they came to the chorus. Then: "on Ohio - 58 to 6!, on Ohio - 58 to 6!", hit 'em high, hit 'em low, hit 'em O-H-I-O, etc. in feminist falsetto while waving white hankies! It blew me away.

Anyway, the point of it all is that we really hated that school down south, as much then as now.

            • Oregon destroyed MSU when MSU thought they would be playing for national title this season.

Oregon destroyed the defending National Champs and ended their 29 game (SEC) win streak .

Oregon will beat Ohio, with a true Heisman QB at helm. Ducks cover late in the 4th.

Good story, Doc. Seems like you arrived right after some of M's best teams ever and just in time for a no-name from Dennison to take over at Ohio State. The million dollar question is did you make the journey southward for the Snow Bowl? LOL. THAT would be a story. I reckon it's the only game M ever won without getting a single first down!

                • OP:

I'm calling it Oregon 48-35. I think that talent-wise, Ohio State has an overall advantage. I think the defensive talent is considerably to OSU's advantage. I think the Ducks have some really fantastic backs that are easily on par with OSU's skill players. And I think Mariotta is the truth, the difference, the bees knees...all that jazz. He's the best player in CFB and he plays at the most important position on the field. He'll make the difference.

                  • Probable, what I think the most intriguing story line will be the back-to-back games for all the marbles for both teams.

Traditionally, you play a Conference game then have almost an entire month to heal and practice. Wouldn't surprise if one team showsup flat.

13 point spread? Nahhh ...... Ducks 38, bucks 35. I agree with you on Marriota.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                      • It's definitely a weird vibe, certainly for me. When Ohio State beat Alabama it felt like they had scaled the mountain. In reality, it was merely a step up toward the mountain top. I assume UFM has his team in the right mindset, but that's how I felt.

With Oregon, I think beating FSU was more expected -- more of a business trip. Beating Alabama these days is such a big deal it's hard to think you have to go out and beat Oregon. I'm hoping the underdog role keeps them motivated!

Just the outcome? Or the outcome and the reasoning?

                            • I'm staying with my belief that the Buckeyes are the best team in the nation and will win this game.

                              • Not only is it the national championship but the inaugural tournament. Hard to see either team coming out flat for that or unmotivated, though I could see other sorta complications as a result of the new system.
