Maybe the most depressing post of the Hoke era. I completely agree. That's why I'm pretty sure there's only one person who can step in and succeed here. Harbaugh's not coming unless he gets the money and the authority he needs to make it HIS football program and his alone. He's only 50. Michigan has time to make another stupid hire and suck for even longer, and that's probably what happens before a sufficient amount of humble pie has been eaten and they are willing to put up with Harbaugh not being utterly perfect.

    • Jeff nailed it. The stupidity of the decision making of the athletic department under Brandon is astounding. It is like he is purposefully trying to decrease the fan base. I have never seen he UM fan base this dejected and apathetic.

      • (1) - (3) and the results those decisions have produced, to date, have made amped up the aggravation factor of (4) and (5). It's almost to the point where I read Buchanan's posts and feel bad for him as a fan. If you had told me in 2000 that I would ever feel that way about M fans, I'd have laughed.

I could always envision OSU being really good. But I could never envision the past 6 seasons of M football and how staggeringly bad they've been. It's unimaginable, really.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
        Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

        • We were due; USC, Bama, Penn State, Florida State, Oklahoma, Georgia, Nebraska & Notre Dame all had similar struggles like this in the past 25 years. Florida & Texas are currently down but I think in-state talent will carry them back quicker...

Constant is bad coaching changes.... Bad coaching hires really can dramatically alter your program's on-field success just as good ones can make you really successful. I thought Lloyd left mediocre (or worse) talent to RR who left none for Hoke...

Ohio State only had to put up with their Fickel for one year before being saved by Urban.

The above are arguably the top 12 programs in CFB.

          • And it shows just how tricky it is to stay on top in college football. Our downfall started with the last two seasons of the Carr regime, with very poor recruiting, and a lack of passion on his part. Follow that by Rich Rodriguez's 3 year total disdain for defense, and another botched fire/hire with Hoke, and here we are approaching nearly a decade of incompetence.

Winning cures a lot of ills. If Michigan can somehow LUCK into a couple good seasons in a row, it may bring the fans back, .. but if they want long term success, there will have to be a complete purge of the decision makers from top to bottom.

            • Mediocrity or empty seats and the loss of revenue from that will lead to HC changes if necessary.

              • Empty seats will get the attention of the right people.

Question is, can they make the right decisions to put butts back in those seats?

                • Last time to the boosters and a fraction in the AD the most important quality was a Michigan Man. I think that quality is less important if Hoke is a bust, which I don't think he will be if given time.

                  • Happy Independence Day to all.

We're on the home stretch of the offseason now and we can happily get back to discussing the failings of Michigan Men on a daily basis soon

                    • Well, Dave Brandon is a "Michigan Man" and we discuss him almost daily already.

                      • I'm sure the 'indefinite suspension' will include the 1st quarter of Game 1.

                        That'll teach him ....

                        • Don't forget the extra Bible study sessions at Urban's house. Worked for Aaron Hernandez.

He's far down on the depth chart. He might get legit suspended.

                            • He's far enough down the depth chart that unless the prosecutor drops the rioting and/or drug charges, he'll be dumped thereby freeing up another scholarship for the 2015 class. Never underestimate the slimeyness of a former SEC coach.
