  • The charm of college football is the overreacting. Everyone makes extrapolations and projections based on the current weeks data points. The next week when some of those projections are obliterated but new games people readjust and make new projections.

OSU will be fine. They have to work things out. It is human nature to expect that they would pick up right where they left off, but it doesn't work like that.

    • If osu schedule was as front loaded as it is backloaded they might have 2to3 losses.

      • I think the "charm of college football" is seeing things like this at an MSU home game in the third quarter. You have to love the MSU faithful cheering on their #2 ranked Spartans:

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          • Just getting ready for 10/17 when Sparty comes to AA. I'll be there. You?

If so, I'll check with our tailgate guy and if he green lights it, we'd love to have you join us. It's always fun to meet the enemy. Ask Entropy who brought his wife and some friends to the tailgate for a Nebraska game and they all had a ball.

They started the day by gathering together and singing Hail to the Victors. It was awesome. Good times.

                  • NO!

Funny how we have to spice up the osu thread with MSU banter ..... clearly off topic. So, if I have more to say, and I will, I'll move it there.

Back on topic: I do find it interesting that our two stalwart osu friends have been conspicuous by their absence. I can see why. When your team sucks and is on the verge of getting totally embarrassed, and I sense it is going to happen this season at some point, it's no fun to talk football.

                    I know the feeling.

                    • Oh boy. M goes 4-1 and Buchanan is dialed back up to 10+.

I can only imagine where he'd be if M were 43-3.

                      • I knew I'd coax you out from under a rock, dark depressive state or whatever might be ailing you in these dark times.

Srsly, what's the story on WR Cory Smith. Heard he's out for the season with a bad injury. Hate that.

What does that mean to the O?

Aside from the many attempted suicides among osu fans, what is the "reasonable man" saying about the state of osu football?

                        • Not really a significant injury, but Corey Smith played on special teams and had a couple catches.
5 catches for 62 yards this season.

Michigan losing Mario Ojemudia is a bigger loss than OSU losing Corey Smith. My hope for Michigan is that Lawrence Marshall gets a lot of snaps. He physically transformed his body during the off-season. Very promising young player IMO.

                          • Corey Smith is a real loss. He's definitely their #2 WR and was developing into a good downfield blocker. And he was a special teams demon. Losing him to go on top of losing Noah Brown has taken two starting WRs out for the season.

The concern in Columbus is QB play and overall sloppiness in nearly every offensive regard (to wit, the stats I posted above). I feel a bit silly questioning the assessment of a guy who has 3 national titles, 3 separate 20-game winning streaks at 3 separate schools, an undefeated season or national title at 3 separate schools and who is currently 43-3 at Ohio State and yet to lose a B10 conference game. But, yet, I've always thought JTB was best for the offense and I still think that. The open question is whether Beck/Warriner are running a version of the offense that favors Cardale more than JTB.

The upside is that they get Maryland and Penn State at home and then Rutgers on the road. Maryland is beyond awful. Penn State's offense is disgraceful by B10 standards which pretty much means it's unspeakably bad. And Rutgers is in total meltdown mode. So, I'd like to think they'll get three comfortable weeks to work on shit, but I'm not overly optimistic. Cardale Jones is what he is. And with him in, IMO, you have a mistake-prone offense. Oh well. We'll see how it plays out.

                            • I saw a bit of urbz' Monday presser on BTN tonight. Not smiling AT ALL. He will sort this out is my bet and he just might be calling some folks on the carpet to get it done.

The road to MSU at home for osu helps, I would think.

I think it strange the Cardale has survived. If the pass game isn't working, and its not, no matter if it's his inaccuracy, his progressions or route timing by the Rs, why not go with a run oriented JTB who'll throw a pass or two in there to keep the D honest.

With JTB and Eze back there, that's a two headed monster that is tough to defend. I like JTB's ability to make something happen.

But who knows, meyer obviously is seeing stuff that I am certainly not seeing or reading about with regard to CJ. But practicing great, something um mentioned in his presser today when asked about Cardale, was something Hoke always talked about ...... who gives a shit about that. You want a QB that wins ball games. Right now he's not doing that and, in fact, is keeping over matched teams in ball games they should never be in.

Anyhow, I like that you feel bad, lost in the wilderness of despair and are not overly optimistic and all of that.

Keep a stiff upper lip, as they say.

                              • JTB did more than throw a pass or two. OSU had an effective passing game they trusted and a viable running QB option.

The fact that the coaches plainly didn't trust Cardale in the 4th quarter was evidence enough for me.
