Nobody thought we were the best team in the country going into the playoffs last year. We still ended up winning. So hey, until we lose, not seeing the pressing need to drop us from #1. Especially since every other major team has looked shaky in at least one game.

      • That was a clinical exhibition in stupidity. On nearly every metric that typically predicts outcome, they were god awful. -3 in turnovers. Again. 6 red zone trips and 13 points. SIX....for 2.1 points per trip. One bad penalty after another giving IU at least 6 points. Tyvis Powell dropped a stone cold interception that gave IU 3 points and then took a ridiculous angle to gift IU a TD on a long run -- the only way they were going to get back in the game. And they can't pass.

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln.

Oh well. This team is what it is for the most part. They may make marginal gains here and there, but that's it. The defense is really, really good. The offense is entirely one-dimensional. It's nearly identical to the 2003 season. It should be good enough to go 9-3 and finish on the edge of the top 20.

It looks like that for first time since I've been posting here -- over 11 years -- Buchanan is going to right about Ohio State. Odds were with him.

I guess the upside is they get dogshit Maryland and their dogshit offense next week. And it's a Noon game. Weather looks good and my son wants to go, so that should be a nice day.

        • true enough. MD is godawful on offense (has to be the worst in the B1G), and as Talent has pointed out numerous times O-state runs a high-tempo (= more plays) offense with a lot more talent than M, should get out of hand quickly.

          • Maryland is almost certainly the worst team in the league.

            • we practically try to give the game to them in the first quarter and they still couldn't score.... that is bad.

              • Yes. Rutgers is awful, too. That should be quite the game.

Don't disagree, as long as the selection committee in the end pays more attention to the body of work than the rankings during their final deliberation. Anyways, I have no issue with O-state being ranked #1. They have the most talent and the best coach and are the defending champs, they should be #1 until beaten.

                  • No. That is the faulty logic that got FSU in last season. OSU isn't a top 15 team right now. Nor is there any sign of things changing. It's blind faith to think OSU is very good.

                    • if they aren't very good, they will eventually lose. I think that is both Jeff and DSL's point.

                      • Ok. Well a loss is a certainty. Matter of how many.

                        • A loss before Michigan State would still surprise me. None of the teams we play between now and then have an offense as good as Indiana. Most of them are downright awful.

                          • It's hard to overestimate the number of ways this team will keep inferior teams in a game.

                            • In the B10, it appears that it's going to come down to who is playing the best defense because, God knows there is not a team in the Big with a good offense and IU may be the best (most explosive) with Kevin Wilson.

So, maybe it comes down to which offensive style is the best of the worst. I think I know the probabilities there. Here's a clue:

I'll take Harbaugh's style/combo of Power, D and STs over urbz given the limitations at QB 5 games in. Maybe that will change and if it does, I can see osu eeking out a CCG win. They've got the talent ..... but Good God, somebody has to reign in the over-confidence there that is causing some really stupid behavior (and that does not include Ezekial who is playing brilliantly).

Somebody said, somewhere, that M's offense (particularly Rudock) is Craig Krenzel like. Solid. I'm counting on that sort of thing. I don't see osu making it through the gauntlet of playing MSU in the shoe and then going to AA to face M unscathed and a shoe in for the play-offs. Hell, urbz may drop one more besides one of those let alone surviving whoever comes out on top in the West.

                              Tough sledding.

                              Gonna be fun.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                              • It could be worse, you could be Georgia.

The problem is at QB and it is easily remedied. OSU was playing scared at the end, they didn't trust Jones.
