  • You haven't even read the story yourself have you? Like I said, it may prove to be true but take your time before you execute the potential victim.

The "potential victim" already committed (metaphorical) suicide. If Tressel could defend himself from the accusations in the article, he wouldn't have resigned right before it came out.

Is that cirumstantial? Yeah, but this is no court of law. Sure, I could be wrong and the article could contain nothing but lies and Tressel quit for some other reason. But all I'm doing is applying Occham's Razor. The most likely explanation for Tressel's abrupt resignation today is that the article contains some seriously bad shit, definitely for Tressel and potentially for OSU as well. Considering how OSU has stuck by Tressel, they wouldn't have pushed him out if this article could be discredited easily.

I'm reacting to your first claim of Lack of institutional control which would be pointed at the University as a whole, not just Tressell. Tressell is already dismissed in my head. They pulled the switch on him and he rode the lightning.

        • Well, lucky for you I don't reside on the NCAA investigation panel, so my believe that there is most likely lack of institutional control is pretty much irrelevant.

I believed there was a gross lack of institutional control BEFORE this article, just based on the massive amounts of smoke that have come out of OSU for a decade now. I suspect the article is going to back up my belief. If the author is right about the release of the article, we'll all find out in a few hours.

          • Lack of institutional control is 'generally' fit for when those in control (AD and higher ups) are the ones connected to the boosters and covering up the head coaches messes. I think the buck mostly stopped at JT, I'm sure Smith likely had a clue of what was going on but no real smoking gun to implicate him.

            • Yes, that is the question--where does the plausable deniability end? Everyone at OSU is going to claim they were Sergeant Schultz.

              • You owe a SERIOUS apology to Mr Potatoe...

I wonder...if osu is 2-3 (or even 3-2) going into game #6, will the osu faithful be calling for Fickel's head?

The two most revered coaches in osu history have resigned in disgrace. I guess the interviews ask instead of "How long do you intend to stay here" but "How long can you hang on?"

                • I think history will be more forgiving to Woody. He was an old guy who just lost it for one moment and did something stupid on the field. That is a lot different than what Tressel is being accused of.

                  • What the osu faithful need to fear is that the NCAA doesn't find 'lack of institutional control', but "standard operating procedure". Then we'll see Smith and/or Gee kicked to the curb too.

                      • Hey, I won't deny that I think Tressel is a lying, cheating scumbag and has been since before he came to OSU. I don't feel one bit of sorrow for him getting what he deserved out of all this.

Whether the extent of his transgressions will do deep damage to the entire OSU program or just to him is still to be seen. Based on the rumblings on this article, I think they could, but even if the article is totally damning, who knows if the NCAA will be able to take action on it or not? I mean, we had a tacit admission that someone paid $200K for Cam Newton to go to Auburn and yet the NCAA has done nothing about that.

                        • Good riddance, Tressel was a disgrace to the Big Ten. Gee & Smith are culpable, they knew tons!

Woody was fired. He refused to resign.

                              • Every osu coach since WWII has been fired or resigned in disgrace.

Woody didn't have a "momentary lapse of reason" either. He was a crazy old coot who receives entirely way too much praise, IMO.
