Good point. This may not be the cure-all that they are hoping for.

The initial investigation at OSU was self-reported and the athletic department has been cooperating with the NCAA throughout the process.

USC did not self-report and many have accused the athletic department of attempting to obstruct the investigation, including assistant football coaches.

Stuff like that might not matter to YOU but it does matter to the NCAA

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

        • This begs the question: Which exit is more ignominious? (Look it up, DSL)

Is it more humliating to have your coach fired for punching an opposing player in the throat on live television or to have your hypocritical coach resign for playing ineligible players and lying to the NCAA?

I'm guessing this was timed due to the SI article being released late tonight/tomorrow. Dunno what other reason why it was done today.

            • Keep in mind that USC has publicly stated that they are going to monitor this and make sure that everyone else gets treated fairly. In other words, if they got hit with the NCAA hammer, they are going to push to ensure that OSU does to.
And this is a real issue in all this. USC will most definitely be monitoring how O-Lie-O is treated for their transgressions, and also how Auburn is treated. If they figure that either of them got off "lightly", they'll be suing the NCAA in every court in the land. I think the NCAA will be aware of this as they press on.

The NCAA might not find enough proof to punish OSU as hard as USC, but as far as the level of cheating going on, from where I'm sitting, it looks like OSU is worse.

USC's athletic director has already stated that they are done and there will be no lawsuit. I imagine that could possibly change but they've probably already looked at it and decided the odds of winning aren't great.

USC, Auburn, osu. Yep, they fit together.

This is a very good point.

Garrett was nothing less than an ass-hole in the eyes of the NCAA ..... which he repeatedly stuck his fingers in those eyes.

USC played the get lost card and got hammered for it; osu played something akin to an Ace bluffing they're holding at least one more, maybe two.

                      Nicely played.

We'll see if the NCAA calls their bluff.

I'm telling you how the NCAA thinks and views compliance. USC resisted and fought with the NCAA; OSU has thrown the door open.

                        • I wonder if Fickell would dare to make a strong character move and determine that the Tat Five got off too easily and extend their suspensions?

                          • I don't expect O-Lie-O to get SMU-like sanctions. The NCAA doesn't have the testicular fortitude to do something like that again.

I do expect that some wins will be vacated, perhaps a mild reduction in scholarships, and maybe even a repayment of some bowl revenue.

But to me, just the embarrassment alone is payment enough. I don't care what the NCAA does from here.

                            • You confuse my wishes and what may likely happen. Jeff's speculation is probably close to what will happen. Tressel reluctantly slithering off in face of his exposed lying will probably mitigate NCAA sanctions somewhat, but a hammer will fall.

The schmuckeye nation falls into a state of shock and remains in its state of denial.
