In high school news, Ohio's Mr. Football, Joe Burrow, and his Athens team lost to Toledo Central Catholic 56-52 in a fantastic game to watch. TCC's running game couldn't be stopped, and TCC had little chance of stopping Burrow. The game was Division III.

As a point of reference, TCC played at Warren De LaSalle to open the season and lost 21-14.

Athens was one of those teams that didn't have the overall talent, especially up front, but they had a few really good skill kids and Burrow at QB is really, really good. So, it was a video game where TCC's superior size and depth was too much for Athens and Athens offensive skill was too much for TCC. Athens dropped an interception in the endzone with 20 seconds left, and TCC scored on the next play. Also, Athens had an XP blocked and they failed on 3 straight 2pt conversion attempts to lose 4 points. Both teams scored 8 TDs.

Looking forward to today--triple header and all of them should be pretty good with the possible exception of Division 2.

Twitter was wrong! Warriner will not get the KU job. Hooray! Well, I mean, they guy is a really good coach with obvious HC ambitions, so I feel bad for him. But he'll get his chance sooner or later. But, hopefully, at least after one more season with OSU.

That was the true genius of M in hiring Funk to coach up the OL. You get a really solid position coach with no risk of him leaving the program. You can't really put a value on that type of continuity.

Of Burrow? He was definitely a kid another program could have got to with a long-standing relationship. He didn't really explode until camp season -- and for some services, still hasn't.

OSU was always going to be tough to beat once they offered, and they offered relatively early. But, he was still an obvious Plan B offer after losing out on their top 2.

He's good. Tall. Athletic. Pretty good arm, but really accurate. Understands the game well for his age. I was surprised at how good he was because I assumed his stats were based on playing shit competition in the sticks. Which, they are. Heh.

And it had, against all odds, turned into such a promising season.

Frankly the bar can't get much lower when your HC viciously assaults a Clemson player and instead of getting sent upstate to Sing Sing, he gets a pink slip. Much would have preferred that Gardner pissed on him instead, keeping with tradition and all.
