  • If you respect someone you don't allow your assistant coaches to go out on recruiting visits and tell kids who are considering Michigan, that Coach Carr has "serious health issues that will require him to resign very soon". This has been documented by reports of players and families whose kids didn't end up at Michigan or OhLieOh.

If Jim Tressel respected Lloyd Carr, he wouldn't have allowed his assistant coaches to teach his defensive players to deliberately attempt to injure Michigan players during the game, in an effort to get them out of the game. And, if your players DID do that "on their own", you suspend them, or apply some other sort of meaningful punishment that demonstrates that this behavior is unacceptable.

In other words, you've got nothing. Absolutely nothing. A load of crap. Everything that's gone wrong at Michigan over the past decade you look for a reason to blame Tressel for some nefarious ubterfuge.

You lost the football game? Only because Tressel cheated.

LLLLLLoyd lost a recruit? Only because Tressel lied to kids about Carr's heath. There's proof of this? Yeah, some guy on Rivals named "wolvie67" told me so 6 years ago.

Our player got hurt? Yeah because they deliberately hit him hard, the cheats.

I don't think there is a poster on this board who will tell you that, on the field of play, tressel coached osu teams didn't beat Michigan fair and square going 9 and 1 from the first season tressel was hired.

But how did that happen? Was it accomplished on the up-and-up? Let's look at that question.

No one disputes that George Steinbrenner lured Michigan's starting quarterback out of the fold and to the NYY during tressel's first year as HC at ohio. Whether tressel was in on that, no one knows but given the recent allegations about how he does business, I could put up a good argument that he was.

Next, tressel puts up a chain link fence around the state of ohio and reels in other talented kids from the midwest making M's usual haul of mid-west and ohio HS talent dry up. The result: no talent on the M DB units that manifested itself during the later Carr and most assuredly during the Rodriguez years, weak DL play, terrible LBs, questionable OL play with one noteworthy exception (Jake Long) and middle of the road skill players on offense.

How did he do this? Well, the evidence is mounting that he provided mechanisms to get athletes benefits that other football programs didn't provide. In the process he builds a winning program that attracts more and more top talent nationally.

How did jim tressel build the power house football program of the new Millennium that made the B10 his play ground for a decade and launched osu into a string of BCS bowls and national title games? How did he subdue the one program that was a perennial challenger for the B10 title? Like any good field general, tressel struck at the logistical life blood of his chief competitors in his conference .... recruiting.

The evidence is mounting that top HS talent who didn't give a shit about an education and wanted to start living like the NFL stars they wanted to become liked the benefits they could get at osu and chose that program over others. Not that I ever would have wanted terrell pryor to play for Michigan but he was one recruit who, if Rodriguez had hauled him in, would have made a difference in 2008, porbably 9 .... and who knows how pryor would have turned out had he had the influence of Michigan men around him instead of a lying head coach and players on the take?

Sure, I'll admit this is speculative and the jury is still out. I'd have to go back and see what other 4 and 5 star players tressel lured in that might have considered another program such as Michigan had there not been an unspoken promise of cars, cash, parties and women made never by tressel but rather by osu players and the now unfolding booster network tressel ran. In fact, we may never fully know the extent of his misdeeds and the depth of connections he had that made paying players to play for osu a routine occurrence. As the trouble deepens and the plot thickens, there will come a point where osu can't hold on any longer and will have to dump tressel to cut its losses ....which it seems is exactly what the NCAA is hoping osu does.

          • I dunno if the B10 needs an 'elite' OSU but they need more than one BCS caliber (top 10) team to get national respect imo. A 1-loss B10 without anyone else in the top 12-15 means its unlikely that 1-loss B10 team goes to NT game.

            • Tressel has been a f'ing liar, a cheater, and a snake since day 1. He represents EVERYTHING that is wrong with collegiate athletics. Win at all costs, screw the rules, don't care about having any honor or class, intentionally hurt the other team, cheat, do ANYTHING, as long as you win.

He's a complete scumbag, as scummy as anyone we've seen in the NCAA over the past decade except maybe for "get out of town just in time" Pete.

              • Small had 61 catches for 659 yards and three touchdowns during his Ohio State career, which was marked by frequent suspensions and disciplinary acts

Why's it seem like the problem cases and benchwarmers are always the ones who mouth off and throw accusations around? Might as well dig up the Sammy Maldonado article myself...as I know it's coming soon anyhow. Contacting ESPN of 2004....

                  • I think what has created the resentment to Tressel is not that his cheating is so over the top worse than most, but that he wrote a book and projected a holier than thou image. The hypocrisy is what's creating the angst ... something the Buckfans can't appreciate and why they believe this all just a witch hunt agains a "decent man who made a small mistake."

actually that's (9*-# to be vacated by NCAA) - 1

It's hard to be too upset about the record anymore since it is not clear how many victories were with eligible players.

ASTERISK for life ... deal with it.

No matter how long you wag your finger, as the tears stream down your face, and you plead with the world to ignore your failures, they really did happen. ON THE FIELD.

They remain losses for LIFE. Deal with it.

With virtually none of the fraud and cheating substantiated by facts. Just sad, sad rumors and resentments from M fans who can't stand losing to THE Ohio State University and are looking for any way to feel positive about their program right now. God knows the team's performance on the field and in the classroom is among the worst in the Big10.

EVERYTHING Tressel touched is going to have a giant asterisk by it. EVERYTHING. It's gonna end up being Ohio State's lost decade. A decade of nothing but fraud and cheating, perpertarted by a total fraud, liar, hypocrite, and cheat.
