Former Ohio State All-American/current ESPN analyst/de facto conscience of the Buckeye Nation Chris Spielman told a country club crowd earlier this week that he would be "surprised" if Jim Tressel coached at all in 2011, because he suspects "there is more stuff coming out" about the unfolding scandal that has already landed Tressel on a five-game suspension to start the season.

I think osu is in trouble. How much is debatable.
The SI article will allege a great deal. Whether there is substance to it will be for the NCAA to determine and that will all be done in coordination with osu. Ask yourselves how much came out of Rosenberg's piece that alleged "major violations" of NCAA rules involving coaching contacts with athletes during the summer?
While it is true there is a ton of smoke over all this, it could all blow over and if osu dodges bullets, tressel returns and continues to win, all of this will be a distant memory ..... as horribly wrong as that would be, it is an entirely possible outcome.
Having said that, Jonathan Chait wrote an excellent piece set up to be a debate about whether Michigan fans should want to see tressel fired in disgrace or not. The debate between Chait (fire and forget) and Spath (keep and disgrace him on the field) wasn't even close.
First, Chait is a first class journalist who writes very well. Spath is an amateur. But the core thesis that Chait advances is that tressel has so blackened osu's image and the image of CFB that he has no place there, anywhere else, now or ever.
Mostly he has tarnished an image (based on the truth or not) of The Game wherein two powerful B10 programs have for decades played it with integrity and respect. How is it, going forward, regardless of the NCAA findings, that The Game can be raised as one of the great contests in all of sports when one of the opponents has been found to have a coach who lies?
That is the great tragedy here and this regardless of the outcome of tressmess.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Oh BTW, the guy who supposedly wrote the SI article is the last sportswriter to win the Pulitzer. He got it for his takedown of Minnesota. So this is no Columbus version of Rosenberg we are talking about.
I wonder if after this is all done he'll get another Pulitzer?
