I still make the nuts the favorite to win the B1G East. They may lose one game in conference play, which will mean that the Michigan game will be a "must" win for them, to get into the CCG. I don't see that as a major problem for them. Hoke is horrible on the road, and so is Gardner.
I say OlieO ends up the regular season at the very worst 10-2. They'll win the CCG (nobody from the West can beat them) and they'll go to the Rose Bowl and lose to Oregon.
At most, it cost them 2 wins. Most likely MSU and one other that could bite them in the butt if they aren't prepared. Sort of like what Purdue did a couple years back.
UFM and Coach Herman will have to really earn their money this season. That said, if they're able to produce a good offense with as much "youth" and "inexperience" as they have, including a completely unproven QB, then M fans ought to take an even harder, longer look at Hoke's offense.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
I really liked Barrett as a recruit. Really thought he was a big-time get for UFM. Tore his ACL his senior season, so he was a bit limited last year. But, I think he has the ability to run this offense well. He can't make some of the throws Miller can make, and he doesn't have Miller's explosiveness as a runner. However, I think he will actually run the read option well. I think he can certainly be Smooth Jazz Kenny Guiton right now, and well beyond Smooth Jazz in the future.
Now, if JT goes down, I'm not even going to pretend Cardale Jones can step in. If Jones plays it becomes a pure running offense.
So, to adopt the new OSU motto, I'm going to Grin and Barrett!
