            Ranking the BCS contenders

            6. Ohio State Buckeyes

In late August, when the Buckeyes were sitting at No. 2 in the preseason polls, this position might have seemed unfathomable. But Alabama, Oregon and Florida State have been dominant pretty much every time they've taken the field, while Ohio State has rarely dominated because of a struggling defense. Add to that an OSU schedule that lacked difficulty in the nonconference portion, and is mostly lacking in the Big Ten as well.

The Buckeyes need a statement win, but there's not a remaining opponent good enough to help them earn more respect. Ohio State needs at least two of Bama, Oregon and FSU to lose a game in order to have a shot, but unlike Missouri and Miami, the Buckeyes don't have a chance to eliminate one of those teams by themselves.

That supports their argument and not yours.

              • They would "have a shot". They wouldn't get in but they would have a shot.

Read the whole piece, 5 teams have a better path to the championship game than oLIEo, and even the two teams below (Baylor and Texas Tech) have a shot to go ahead of them.

Obviously. It's possible that Miami and Mizzou could leapfrog OSU, thus even if 2 of top 3 lose, OSU might not make it. But they're not getting left out for a 1-loss team.

                  Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

                  • I still don't believe that. A one-loss Alabama has a pretty strong argument over OSU. You've made a compelling case too, though. I'd say we'll see what happens if it happens, but we won't. You're gonna lose to Michigan this year. It's going to be embarrassing for you.

So, in a close game, like it think it will be, your going to pick Hoke as the guy that is going to find away to win over meyer?

Go ahead, Walk out on that limb, bro.

                        • What the heck's the point if you can't believe you're gonna beat OSU at home?

                          It'll happen.

At this point, the rosy view I've found a way to abandon .... this after a decade of high hopes with gut wrenching outcomes.

Things could change - injuries, Borges is actually good, Hoke is actually smarter than he has demonstrated so far, Mattison is not fooled - but the chances of all those things going for M are pretty small.
