  • Valid arguments. I haven't watched a ton of it, but Bashar's version run by Miller looks really good to me. But this is all new, and we'll see how it plays out.

    • I was ecstatic when Rich Rod showed up but so much for that experiment.

OK, so how many NFL teams run the spread as their base offense? While it's true, there are plays with 4 wides that spread the field but there are not a lot of teams running the read option which is a major portion of true base offense spread teams. Eagles w/Vick, Skins with GRIII?

So, no, I'm not buying that is the wave of the future at the college level. As talent notes, pure spread/read option ball typically lacks the OL power to "Schtick" it in. I agree with this. The boys up front on spread teams are different cats. You're not going to find 300+ OLmen who can move like they need to move to make the read option run game work; those types are way out there on the HS recruit availability bell curve.

The thing that is challenging though, as I've mentioned numerous times, is getting a defense to play well against spread teams. Its hard with even good talent. You need elite talent and elite coaching to have one ...... I think it is easier to do that than it is to build actual spread offense teams that can run power too.

So, for me, its a tweener offense that works, at least in the B10, maybe all over CFB but I know conferences vary in the kind of ball that works well. I think ufm has that approach; I think Hokeorges does too ..... maybe just a shade towards a pro-set, down hill run game style than urban has.

Guiton showed terrifically on Sat. and hats off to ufm for game planning to use his skills and not just make him a Miller clone. I think, either way, unless M's back side D develops real quick, and it might, osu's offense with miller or guiton (I'd use both) is going to shred M's D.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • To state what I think is pretty obvious, UFM's offense is first and fundamentally a power offense. They have two backbone running plays that are nothing more than power runs with a read option wrinkle.

The tempo and formations are "spread," obviously, as is the passing game.

As an aside, I do really miss the QB sneak option on 4th and short.

Anyway, at some point they're going to play a team with a competent defense. It won't happen this week. So, we'll have to wait until Wisconsin to figure out where the offense actually is. Shredding SDS and Cal doesn't exactly rate as much of an accomplishment.

Well, Akron shredded M's D ..... that was f'ing Akron.

          osu offense is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Akron's

M fans should be standing by for an ass raping by osu.

          Mark it down.

          • LOL. Nothing to date has really changed my outlook for the season. I still expect OSU to beat M in close, tough game The one thing I am starting to shift on is that I think M and OSU may rematch. Prior to the season I didn't think that would happen. I'm close to changing my mind.

              • Going into last weekend, I thought there was probaby a 75% chance that OSU and Michigan would play twice, but now, that probability has dropped considerably. I think that I would make NW the favorite now.

NW's schedule is too tough, IMO. My change of heart is due mostly to UNL. I had them at 7-1 and winning the division. Now I think 6-2, which I think ties with M, and I have M beating UNL. I still think NW is 5-3.

I've watched two full games, not just recaps. I like Fitzgerald and NfW's offense is the real deal.

Not sure about their D though.

Agreed, schedule is tough up to going to AA (hosts osu, then, @ Wisky, Goophers, @ Neb). They may be out of it by then with 3 losses (osu, wisky, neb .... not so sure about Neb anymore though with the Pelini circus on D. God, how I know their pain).

                      • I don't like NW as much as I dislike everyone else. I don't see anyone stopping their offense. Until this past weekend, I thought that we could still outgun them and win somewhat comfortably. But ND's shitty performance against Purdue combined with our shitfest against Akron has me thinking differently. And NW is a good candidate for the question "who will be the next team that gains 600 yards against Nebraska?" Jeebus their defense is awwful.

Starting 11: Ohio St. is way overrated -Fox Sport Exclusive

I watched 16 straight hours of college football on Saturday.

That seems impossible — but I got to the FOX studios at 5 a.m. PT and didn't leave until 9 p.m. PT. That was 16 hours of television time. I then stayed up to watch the end of Wisconsin at Arizona State back in my hotel room. By the time the day was over, I thought the Louisville at Kentucky game had started a week beforehand.

As a result, I feel comfortable telling y'all this: Ohio State isn't a top-five team. In fact, the Buckeyes aren't even a top-five team in the SEC. I think Ohio State would be the eighth-best team in the SEC this year. To be fair, Ohio State would be in one top five — the Buckeyes would be the fifth-best team in the SEC West.

                          3. Ohio State might play just one top 25 team all season

And that top 25 team could be Northwestern.

It was a really bad weekend for the Big Ten. The Pac-12 knocked off two of the top 25 teams in the conference, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Washington also went on the road and took down Illinois.

Combine this awful schedule with the fact that Ohio State's defense has looked horrendous against three bad teams, and I'm already to the point where a one-loss SEC or Pac-12 team deserves to be in the BCS title game over an undefeated Ohio State.

The Buckeyes just aren't going to have the chops to justify a title game appearance.

Ask Vegas how many SEC teams would be favored over Ohio State on a neutral site right now? Six or seven is the answer. I think Ohio State would be the fifth best team in the SEC West this year.
