  • Here's the Wiki info/link on the "Fulmer Cup", looks to be loaded with the real facts about the Cup:

    Fulmer Cup

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Jump to: navigation, search
The Fulmer Cup is a tongue-in-cheek award given each year in the United States to the Division I FBS college football program whose players collectively have the worst criminal record.[1]
The Fulmer Cup was conceived in 2006 by Every Day Should Be Saturday sports blogger Orson Swindle, a fan of the University of Florida, and named for then-University of Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer. While Fulmer was coach, the Tennessee team had over 20 players arrested for criminal activity in a 16 month period from 2004 through 2005. This mirrored a similar outbreak of criminal activity at the University of Tennessee in 1995 when 9 players were arrested.
The University of Arkansas is the winner for the most recent (2012) season, with 68 points,[2] and now holds the record for highest score among Division I FBS programs with a current all-time total of 125 points.[3]

    • Key words in that Wiki are as follows:

The Fulmer Cup is a tongue-in-cheek award
Yeah, I know your link to the Fulmer Cup been posted already (I myself have only seen it once, though I'm not disagreeing that it may have been posted multiple times); my point is to make sure that it is clearly known that the award is not made based on "facts" but rather on subjective garbage using a point system invented by the guy who started it back in the 2006.

      Garbage in, garbage out.

      Here's the "point system":

      Points

Points are scored for each charge received by players (players must be on the team roster at the time of the offense). Alumni players receive double points.
The scoring for the Fulmer Cup is imprecise— murder is 5 points; rape, bestiality, and grand larceny are 4 points; assault et al. are 3; drug possession et al. are 2; and misdemeanors (including traffic violations) are 1 point.[4] Bonus points are awarded for arrests that occur under interesting and unusual circumstances.
In order to be eligible to win the Fulmer Cup, a school must have more than one player charged (a school may not win the cup on the basis of a single player's criminal record; this is known as the Ellis T. Jones III Rule, named after the San Jose State wide receiver who in 2006 accumulated 31 points by himself having been charged with 13 felony counts, including robbery, assault, and kidnapping). However, the Ellis T. Jones III Award for Individual Achievement is given to the player with the single highest point total.

Need a definition for the word imprecise, DSL???

      • I don't have any facts to go on, but it wouldn't surprise me if msu were the annual leaders in the "bestiality" portion of scoring points, although ohio might score a close 2nd in the category. msu has their "School of Animal Husbandry"; at ohio, it's called "recreation"

        • It's far more precise and objective than anything written by an M fan here about how OSU has criminals running around everywhere.

I've yet to hear anything like an explanation as to how the Fulmer Cup could get things so wrong and put Michigan that far above OSU. How do YOU explain it Rob? Do you actually know how many Michigan players and recruits have been arrested over the past 7 years? My guess if you're pretty ignorant about it and don't actually have a clue. You just "know" that it can't possibly be as high as OSU because...well, because you "know" that.

Damn the facts. Damn them I say!

            • To illustrate clearly the garbage scoring system the "Fulmer Cup" uses, here are your scoring "facts" for 2012 (Michigan is tied for 9th with 12 points, The osu is tied for 19th with 9 points, just 3 points behind Michigan):

I don't know about the rest of the forum, but methinks "hitting girls" and "running from the cops" are a bit more serious than any of the other categories for which either school accumulated points. Hitting girls is fine with you, huh, DSL?

              • Arrests/convictions I was able to quickly find:

Denard (guilty of driving on a suspended license)
                Touissant (DUI)
                Clark (home invasion/theft)
Will Campbell (drunken destruction of property)
                Jerald Robinson (property destruction)
Josh Furman (domestic violence, assault- later acquitted)
Marvin Robinson (home invasion- stole an XBox)
Darryl Stonum (multiple DUI and driving without a license incidents)

That's all within the past 2-3 years. Going back to Rich Rod/Carr you can find lots, lots more obviously...Cissoko, Kelly Baraka, Justin Feagin, etc. etc.

                  • Hitting girls is a serious charge but Hyde has yet to even be charged with anything. And the "running from the cops" was stupid but the crime actually committed was public urination, so big flippin deal. That should obviously be below home invasions, theft, and DUIs that Michigan players have picked up all within the Hoke Era.

                    • I didn't realize this thing they were going on about measures only criminal charges. Assumed it was something more comprehensive. Soon enough however they'll STFU about the Fulmer Cup -- won't be long before they win the darn thing. Urban just needs a few years to implement his system.

The Fulmer Cup was created in honor of Phil Fulmer after a particularly eventful off-season for Tennessee.

Seriously, I'm surprised that so many of you have never heard of it before. Don't ya'll read any national sports sites?

That was EXACTLY my point, hack---the Fulmer Cup that DSL and Talent parade out here and gleefully use against us is pretty much little more than a BS award. My goal was to expose it for what it really is.

                          • It's a fairly accurate measure of how many arrests are taking place at your program. Much as you try to downplay DUIs and theft, Rob, you have not really made a solid effort to "discredit" their system.

Michigan's far above OSU in the alltime standings. Deal with it. I'll give Hoke some of the benefit of the doubt and say a lot of Michigan's worst arrests (like Feagin for dealing cocaine) took place under Rich Rod or Carr.

                            • And as per usual, you guy don't want to talk about arrests...you want to talk about NCAA stuff, because you honestly think NCAA violations are more serious than ACTUAL CRIME.

And we're the ones with f'd up priorities? Right

At least as the facts stand now. Neither the alleged victim nor Hyde have been interviewed. Eh.
Wow DSL, this Hyde scandal has you swinging for fences but it seems Talent and his Cop buddies have the angles on this figured out.

Hell I even caught Urban Meyer already walking this back on sports radio.

Meyer: "I attended my Church picnic last week and course libations were being served. After a few too many "soda pops" perhaps, I was FORCED to use misdemeanor violence against my grandmother when she failed to pass the coleslaw in a timely manner. That is right, I said forced. We then played horseshoes, she said she had a good time."

So please let's not rush to judgment until all the facts come out.
