  • So, UFM is tooling around M the other day visiting some of the top 2014 kids, and he offers Drake Harris, an MSU verbal. Apparently, Harris expressed some interest in OSU, but remains committed to MSU and, frankly, remains a longshot for OSU. Anywho, UFM's visit and offer touched off a tirade of misery amongst MSU forum goers: http://michiganstate.247sports.com/Board/93/Meyer-Goes-For-Huge-Flip-15840263/1

I laughed and cried. Well, mostly laughed. Ok, entirely laughed.

          Clearly a snake oil salesman.

          • If anything wrong is going on, somebody will slip up and spill the beans eventually.

Michigan just needs to focus on its own house, and make sure we have no skeletons in our own closet. We don't need the embarrassment and subsequent sanctions.

            • Fortune favors the bold. UFM had been pushing Dontre Wilson, a solid Oregon commit, to consider OSU for awhile, now. Well, god bless, adios Chip, and Wilson is scheduled to visit OSU this weekend, along with the Robinson twins. OSU has a legit shot at Wilson, which would make up for losing Quick.

Wilson and Marshall in UFM's offense would = not fair.

Since UFM was hired he has signed 33 kids (I count Dunn, but not Washington -- you make a case that Washington only committed once UFM was coming, but meh...):

              Scout: 6, 20, 7 = 3.97 average
              Rivals: 1, 23, 8 = 3.67 average

Of note, 6 of OSU's 4* Rivals recruits are 6.0 4* players, which explains why they're so high in the rankings without a 5* this season.

So, basically, a guy who rolled the B10 at 12-0 this season is just adding more and more talent. I forget who it was, but someone here mentioned how UFM would a nightmare for the B10. OP, any ideas who said that? Heh.

              • Fortune favors the bold.

The calls go to the aggressors. Which is why you attack the basket instead of prancing about on the 3-point line. (Sorry for the extrapolation to another sport)

In the long run, re the matter at hand, what's unclear is the sustainability of a certain type of boldness that requires one to ``act like a Buckeye'', so to speak. I'm not sure I believe anymore in karma, or that what goes around comes around, etc. We'll see. If OSU ever does get what's coming, well, the fact that they've doubled down on the cheating means the snapback is going to be rather extreme.

But, I do like your reference to namby pamby JJ Reddick/Trajan Langdon basketball.

Good win, too. For someone reason, I thought M would bounce back a bit and played them at +2'. Had no idea the Goofers do a clown car show handling the ball. Bonus!

                  • Incidentally, I thought two things I said after the OSU game were on display. First, they need McGary. And I thought he was good for them last night. Granted, I only watched until 5 or 6 minutes into the 2nd half. But Morgan just isn't anything more than a role player at this level, IMO. McGary gives them the upside to add another dimension to their offense. Second, they played faster. Now, that was more due to the Goofer's TOs, but I still thought they came down and were looking to score quicker. The M end of that probably had everything to do with TH feeling it.

Anyway, I like that team a lot better with McGary in the lineup and when they attack on offense. For example, I hate that stupid set where they waste 6-8 seconds with Burke kicking it to the wing, slowly cutting through the key out the opposite wing and rotating back top for the ball. Basically, they start the possession with the shot clock at 22 (assuming it took Burke 5 seconds to get the ball up court). They have guys who can attack and score off the bounce and a ton off options to kick to. I'd like to see them increase possessions. That would make them better, IMO.

Eh, but what do I know. Beilein know his shit.

                    • Minnesota just isn't that good. Very nice team but not scary. Michigan controlled that game most of the way, and you can't be an elite team and let that happen in your own building.

Couldn't agree more re McGary. You can contend in the Big Ten with Morgan; he plays his role just fine. You can also get deep in the tourney, cause Burke and the three wings we play are just so good. If you want to get to the Final Four and do some damage there, you probably need McGary and the 3-5 rule-the-paint plays he gives you per game. Plus he's much smoother in the offense. He makes the right pass all the time. He might look like he's rushing things, but he doesn't panic or ever put his head down and pivot his way toward a prayer, like Morgan will sometimes. Beilein sees this. Morgan starts but the 5 spot is really now McGary's and that will increase.

I really have to expect to see him get some post touches. It would open things back up for Stauskas, big-time. And put less pressure on Burke. Beilein's gotta know this.

                      • I also think he's more of a threat off the pick and roll. He's still developing in that regard, but seems to have a good sense of where to be to give Burke a lane to pass and he can finish or hit a short jumper.

It's such a staple set for that offense and it works fine if there isn't a hard hedge from the big. But if there is, they need McGary to be a legit threat -- either actually getting the ball and scoring, or forcing rotation that may result in an open backside 3.

I think Minnesota's guards are better than they showed last night, though they don't have anyone who can effectively check Burke 1v1.

Oddly, I thought Minnesota was too unselfish. The extra-EXTRA pass was a disaster for them. I don't know if that's because they have passive scorers or they just overpass sometimes.

                        • Gophers lack a go-to guy, they were way too passive on offense. They need that guy which they don't have. A guy who can create his shot or who is willing, capable of making the difficult shot when the offense isn't creating an open man.

They've got a great supporting cast but no Trey Burke to surround. First time I've seen Minnesota all season and they proved to as pesky as advertised and should do well in the B10, though they belong in the second tier.

                          • Minnesota is better than they looked last night though. They're probably not a top 10 team. Beilein just owns Minny. I too played the +2(.5).

On a side note, I couldn't believe my eyes when I say Miami PLUS 2 vs LAL, then PLUS THREE at game time. I couldn't hit the submit button fast enough. WTF were the oddsmakers doing there?
