    Shut the fuck up Donny!

    • I put Yost as far more important hire to the Big Ten then anyone - his influence shaped most of college football and athletics as a whole, not to mention the single biggest reason that ND isn't part of the Big Ten (for better or for worse). Obviously his presence shaped UM more than any other coach but his influence was equally apparent throughout the entire conference.

      • Fielding Yost and Fritz Crisler put Big Ten football on the map.

Anyone else attempting to claim such status needs to stand down wind of Wizard as he enjoys his bratwurst and beer ....

        • Uh, Fritz Crisler? GTFO. That's not even supportable by the most favorable interpretation of facts. Bernie Bierman, e.g., did more for the Western Conference/Big 9 than Fritz by a longshot.

Yost's 1901-05 teams certainly put M on the map and, obviously, remain the absolute foundation for M's "all-time" claims. The Western Conference, though, did fine when M and Yost left.

But, more to the point, CFB was in its infancy. Yost's hire, and it's importance, could only be determined in retrospect. At the time, who cared? CFB wasn't the mega-sport it is today. Michigan was certainly not any sort of huge power. It was a hiring of little significance that turned into one of importance. Much like Woody Hayes, e.g.

There is no "retrospective" analysis of Meyer's hire. How well he does is matter for the future, but there's zero question that, contemporaneously, he was the biggest hire in B10 history. And if he succeeds, he saves the conference. We've all seen what the conference is without the Flagship, either through total suckage or a bowl ban -- the two worst B10 seasons in recent memory.

Not only is UFM the Flagship's savior, he's the conference's, though that's obviously a tough pill for M fans to swallow.

              • Determining importance before he's had any actual impact is silly. His impact has been beating a bunch of shitty B1G teams. Other than that, big fucking deal. Wait until he's retired, fired, etc. before determining his importance. All other speculation is bull shit.

                  • I'm simply celebrating Chris Martin's once-in-a-lifetime accuracy, hack. Heh.

Anywho, there's really not disputing how big the hire is. I can think of two other hires that match it -- Saban at Alabama and Calipari at UK. Those were ginormous contemporaneous hires. As was UFM. How successful those hires are remains to be fully seen. But there's no question how big they were.

So, don't fret boys, with UFM at the wheel, The Flagship will tow the M dinghy and the rest of the B10 to hallowed waters!

                        • I've been telling you for weeks now. Plus, you're not here for that. You're here for the dispassionate exchange of information you value engaging in with the lot of us. And furthermore you know how inferior you are. Better than we do probably.

Undoubtedly. My statement wasn't an attack on anyone -- just a statement of how I do things. Yeah, I'm talking about The Flagship, which is obviously true. And I know the "risks".

I haven't a clue what the rest of your shit is, but whatever.
