  • This is BS ... there is no way that Miller does not have some significant brain injury. His posturing and behavior on the field was not due to bruised ribs/punctured lung. The guy was knocked senseless. Depending on how quickly the brain MRI was obtained after the injury and the scanning protocol they used, the evidence for injury may or may not have shown up. I sense medical incompetence here ... I hope they are not declaring no injury in the hopes of getting him on the field ... that would be a real travesty. We'll see what UM decides, but agree with talent that Miller should sit out at least one game, regardless of how he might say he feels.

He plays for OSU, how would you get a baseline to compare it too?

      • Seriously, though. It seemed that their diagnosis came very quickly. If I were the kid's parent, I'd want to know that a neurologist worked up a complete examination, before even letting my kid go to the locker room again.

If that's been done, then okay. But, it seems like it came rather quickly, IMO.

        • I just don't know how severe it was. If it was mild, then there's usually a 6-7 day protocol to follow, and if he passes each step he is cleared.

          • It seems to me the MSU medical director who evaluated Gholston headed to Columbus.

Well, except Gholston sat one play and was back in the game

              • I don't think Braxton Miller had the (Jahvid) Best doctors ;)

                • I don't think it was a head injury, he didn't land on his head/neck or even back. He was very twisted but I'm siding with the OSU doctors.

                  • I beg to differ. Shoulder came down first but then his head bounced off the ground.

I wouldn't play him if I were the responsible doctor even with the limited information I have. His actions immediately after the play are reason enough.

                    • I see Vanderbilt has bailed out of their one game 'series' with osu via form letter (heh). Gene-o is whining about it too...maybe he can find some sympathy from Georgia.

                      • Georgia was a weird agreement to try and schedule something, not an actual set-in-stone thing. They did cancel on Tennessee, though. In both cases, the cancellation was roughly 8 years, at least, in advance of the scheduled games. Gene, for all is faults, is probably right to be pissed about a cancellation on such short notice. It really limits your options.

                        • It's unfortunate, but understandable, that osu fans cling to this notion that osu is some kind of example in college sports to be emulated. Bunk. There's just too much tarnish on the institution as a result of the tressel affair. gordon gee's behavior was stunningly inappropriate given the wide ranging implications of tressel's behavior. So was gene smith's.

You know what happened. There's nothing wrong with admitting here that you got punished for the tip of the iceberg only. Nothing flamelike in there.

Thanks for the gossip on Miller. Best of luck for his recovery.

                          • At first I though Miller's injury was to the shoulder area, the way he hit the turf. But the camera angle made it hard to see how hard his head hit. I figured a dislocated or separated shoulder (ala Matt Stafford), or else a major neck injury. But seeing him sitting dazed on the field it looked more like a head injury.

Concussions are tricky things. There is simply a lot we don't know, as to degree, length of recovery, and prognosis. But to err on the conservative side certainly makes sense. The word "consussion" is a generic term that can mean lots of different things.

                            • There is a better angle of the replay of him that shows him not really landing on his head till after his body hits first.

                              • Still, if I were his parent, I'd be insisting on a full examination by a neurologist. Like Doc Hodgman said, concussions are tricky. They need to have a good specialist monitoring his situation.
