  • With the spring game coming up fast, I thought I'd do a crude WM mock up for OSU. Numbers in brackets indicated how many I think they'll take. I have the class at 20, but numbers are really tight. Might be 18. Maybe 17.

    QB: [2]
    RB: Ezekiel Elliot, [0]
    Ath/WR: Marshall, [2]
    OL: Lisle, [2]
    TE: Baugh, [1]
    DL: Price, [1]
    LB: [3]
    CB: Burrows, Woodard
    S: Thompson, [1]

    On the Board:

QB: J.T. Barrett, Mitch Trubisky. Could probably get in with Travon Chapman if they wanted to.

RB: Derrick Green. I'm not sure they even take another RB. Marshall is a guy who will get a lot of touches. Green is probably there for the taking if they push, but they aren't pushing.

WR: Shelton Gibson. He's the only one who I think is in. Quick, North, Treadwell -- those guys have shown some interest, but I don't see it, yet. Quick is up for the Spring Game, though, so they at least have a shot.

OL: Pocic, hopefully, but I don't know. I think they want to take one more tackle. Maybe Marcel Lazard. They could always get Lovell Peterson if they wanted.

    TE: Heuerman.

DL: Bosa, I think. Bosa and Price would close out DL, IMO.

LB: Anzalone. Courtney Love. They'd also take Jaylon Smith in f'n heartbeat b/c the kid is ridiculous. I have a bad feeling he ends up at ND, though. If Smith is off the board, not sure they take a 3rd, but if they do, Tim Kimbrough would be very interested.

DB: Really don't know who they get to fill out the DBs. They probably want a safety.

I'd like to see OL and WR firmed up. Pocic and any of the 3 WRs above would be fantastic.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

    • I saw a linked post about an hour ago somewhere else to a twitter a few hours ago by Bosa. Don't have the link right here (wish I did, if I find it I'll do an edit), but Bosa had tweeted that he would announce a surprise this coming weekend.

I'm not into twitter (though I do have an account), as I find the nonsense posted on it to be ...mostly nonsense. Not sure what to make of Bosa's tweet, though.

      (edit)

Here it is (the quote, since I've not figured how to link the individual tweet):

Might have a surprise this weekend

What's with the "Ashbey's Ice Cream" logo as your avatar, Liney? Never heard of the brand myself, but if it's good and that's what your featuring, FedEx me a LARGE sample.

On 2nd thought, make that a LARGE quantity of LARGE samples!

        • Ashby's is the hand-dipped ice cream that we chose to go with.

We did so for several reasons. First and foremost, it is made in Ludington Michigan, and all the products they use to make the ice cream are produced right here in Michigan. The milk comes from Michigan farms. They don't use any corn syrup or artificial sweetners in their products. Instead, they use beet sugar, which is grown right here in mid-Michigan. They use strawberries, cherries, blueberries, etc., all grown here in Michigan. Some of the products have to be brought in from other states, (pecans, pineapple, etc.,) but as much as possible, Michigan products are used.

In addition, its probably the best tasting ice cream I've tasted in a long time. I told my dairy broker that I wanted the best tasting product he could find. He recommended Ashby's, even though he supplies several different name brands, some of which are cheaper than Ashby's.

So, we're going with that. Make sure you stop by sometime, and we'll take good care of you. We should be open around May 1st. There have been some delays, but we're getting it done.

          • Rob:

Re Twitter, rumor is that Bosa is going come back to Columbus for the Spring Game this week. If that happens, I'd consider it a strong indication of his preference at the moment.

            Liney:

I'll have to look for Ashley's. I'm a fan of local products (moreso with beer, heh). But I like ice cream, too! The most prevalent Michigan beer around here is Bell's, which is, on average, pretty good.

For Ice Cream, an excellent locally-made one is Sherman's (made in South Haven, MI) that uses a LOT of locally grown and produced ingredients in it's products:

Talent--if you want to talk about good beer, well, as good as Bells is, Founders (out of Grand Rapids) is even better---if you ever are in the GR area and need a cold one, their Brewpub is a must-stop:

--simply some of the most amazing beers and ales on the planet. While many of their brews are available retail in grocery and party stores, and more and more on tap in the region, some of their best (and more expensive) concoctions can only be found on location. I'm guessing you're in ohio, I'd be shocked if you're not in their distribution area.

One more brewery of special note that's very local---and their stuff compares very well with Founders---is The Livery, in (of all places) downtown Benton Harbor's Arts District. They're just a local BrewPub that's been around (I believe) for less than 10 years, but they're already better than Bells, IMHO.

              • Thanks, Rob. I will look for Founders. I'm sure they're distributed somewhere around here. My favorite local beer is the obvious choice of Great Lakes. I'm a particularly big fan of their seasonals. They also have some great pub-only selections which they've now started selling at my local grocery story out of the tap. Buy a growler (giant jug) for one-time price of $2.99 and fill her up for whatever they're charging for the beer. They also have the option available for other beers, too, including, on occasion, Bell's. I now keep at least one empty growler in my car at all times in case the store has something good on tap.

                • I try to do the same with my growler from The Livery--I don't have any idea what I paid for it initially (bought it after several "samples" one day--heh), but I've made good use of it. My only disappointment there is that they only allow growler-fills to a limited # of their brews, although I talked one of their bartenders last summer into filling mine up with one of their restricted specialty ales.

One of these days I plan on getting a Founder's growler, maybe next trip there.

Great Lakes is available here, too---what i've tried so far has been very good. Been awhile since I picked up a 6 of any of their stuff, I'll have to get some more soon, I guess.

                  • Yeah, I fall into a rut. I'll just grab whatever Great Lakes I have a hankering for. My brother, though, is in charge of procuring beer for our Friday ngiht get-togethers (I take care of the food). He's far more willing to experiment so I get a pretty good sampling of the beers available at his favorite beer store.

Of course, for a night NASCAR race, heh, it's Schlitz, original formula! Sean probably opts for straight bourbon.

                    • Also, if Joey Bosa's twittering is to be believed, he will be in Columbus for the spring game. Back to the far more enjoyable beer talk.

I take my Original Formula Schlitz without NASCAR! Seriously, though, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried some Schlitz a year or two ago, and have bought a few sixers of it since.

                        • It's a really solid, easy-drinking American lager. My brother lived in Milwaukee when the re-released original formula. He said they had to limit it to one 6er per customer and that husbands were sending wives, sisters, friends to buy more. He said it sold out before he could get any. Fortunately, supply isn't an issue any more.

                          • Concur with Rob on Founders. Good stuff! I've been buying more of it as I find it locally and storing it up in the converted chest freezer. Of course, it doesn't last long. I also recently had a really nice, simple lager from Frankenmuth brewery. Also good.

Locally, I stop by Arbor Brewing Company since they'll fill up my growler half-price on Tuesdays. Their beer may not be as good as some others I've tried, but the price is right if I'm in the mood for a craft beer. The OG in Milan (not sure why people would be in Milan, but who knows!) has good beer, too. They'll fill a corny keg for you for $50 to $60.

And these days, if I go Bourbon for Saturday night racin', I don't make the checkers!
