  • I know how this works, DSL .......

    Fans live in the past.

This isn't Stretch Gate .... may even be worse that Reggie Bush. UT fired Pearl for offenses that seem to me to be less egregious than jt's. Why osu is still holding on to jt is just beyond me. I would bet that the delaying action is going to hurt osu more than help them.

It's over. The next decade belongs to others.

    Enjoy the suckage.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

    • They're hanging on to him because he's an incredibly good football coach and they know that replacing him would mean an even bigger hit to the program. If you thought 3 years of RichRod was bad, imagine OSU with major sanctions, UM on the upswing, and a lesser light coaching. That's not a happy future to contemplate. It would only serve to exacerbate the perception of how hollow OSU's Tressel-era victories were.

Tony perhaps I exaggerate, and maybe it is human nature to look for excuses to make past failures look better, but it seems natural to discount the meaning of these games to a certain extent. The question is to what degree.

if that is true, it is incredibly short sighted of osu's administration. Unless their advisors think they can maneuver around program damaging NCAA sanctions on this and keep tressel in place (and I have no information either for or against it), it's stupid.

What is it? ...... 29 or something coaches who have lied in some way to the NCAA and only 2 or 3 have survived either a show cause from the NCAA or termination before the fact by their universities to avoid such an outcome?

Maybe osu is betting on the come line but it seems like an incredibly risky bet to me. I would think they would want to cut their losses .... unless they know the NCAA is not likely to act in a dramatic fashion on this one because jt has a legitimate, block buster/water tight excuse for not self reporting in April 2010 like I would have expected him to have to do.

        Mystery to me.

        • I'd feel differently if there weren't smoke right back to the very beginning of the Tressel era. It's pretty obvious that this crap has been going on since day 1 and it is just now coming out. Clarett was just the beginning, and he was easily discounted because everyone just said he was crazy. Hell, there is smoke going all the way back to YSU.

Tressel is a good coach. He's also dirty as hell. Some people like cheaters, others don't. I happen to be one of the people that doesn't like them.

It's been obvious for a long time that Tressel was a "win at any cost" guy and that OSU was fine with that. Well, I have a feeling that that attitude is going to come back to bite them big time.

Guffaw. How Pryor selling trinkets in 2009 makes every loss over the last decade no longer count is beyond me. Nothing new has come out about Troy Smith or Clarett in years. I don't remember too many M fans pounding their desks and crying that none of OSU's wins 2004-2006 were legit before the most recent allegations which have nothing to do with those seasons.

Those seasons exist and they hurt you. Seriously hurt. That's why many are so very, very desperate to rationalize them away.

And even if we're hit by USC-style sanctions, as already mentioned, the Trojans are alive and well. OSU will not be overtaken for long by anyone and certainly not by teams like Iowa, Illinois, MSU, etc. We are the engine that drives this conference. The fanbase is too large, it's a talent-rich state, and our greatest possible challengers (Michigan and PSU) are both going through regime changes. Or in PSU's case, near to going through a seismic one.

              "Pride cometh before the fall....."

              Well, OK then.

I'll give credit where its due. osu has done very well for itself in both sports and academics over the last decade and erasing the cooper years and domination by the M football program for 10 years prior to tressel's arrival is nothing to scoff at. But .....

..... the problem with your problem above is that the tressel years, if things turn out like they should, will have an asterisk by them for anyone that is paying attention. While it's true that the jury is still out and maybe gee can pull a rabbit out of his hat and save tressel's' vulnerable ass, as a Michigan fan, I'm not counting on it.

Moreover if the "engine that drives the conference" is run fundamentally by individuals who lack integrity, there is nothing that anyone with integrity that is part of the B10 conference is going to want to associate themselves with.

Yes and that wouldn't be what you're doing here at all, right? To ``rationalize something away''?

                  That's right. Just win, baby.

Rules don't matter. Winning with honor and integrity? Who needs that? Just win, baby. All that matters, is scoreboard. Get the higher number on that scoreboard, baby. Teach the players to break ankles of opposing running backs. Teach your linebackers to choke opposing quarterbacks out of the game. Win so many of those 'gold panties' that they don't matter anymore. Just sell them on e-bay, or to your local barber. Sell those jerseys to some pawn shop. Who cares, when you're winning?

Does your opponent express sincere concerns about the safety of its players and fans when it comes to your "fair" city? Hah. Just laugh it off, have the state police make them stand at attention while bomb sniffing dogs "smell" how much they "stink" .. (because Michigan stinks!!) .. and then deny that you knew about it. And, of course, never apologize for it. That's winning with honor and distinction, baby!!!

Got caught breaking the rules? Just put on your best "Charlie Brown" face, and claim "I didn't know". After all, jt is a "winning" coach. He was hired for one thing, and one thing only. Beat Michigan. He's delivered to the tune of 9-1. Nothing else matters, baby. Just beat Michigan.

                  Winning is everything, baby.

                  Just win, baby.

                  • According to Michigan legend, 2/3 of the team was injured heading into November 2007. Thus it was that Michigan was forced to snatch hobos off the streets of Ypsilanti, dress them in maize and blue, and toss them to the wolves. This partially explains Michigan being held to 94 total yards that day, the lowest in the series' history.

This was the swan song for Hart and Henne and Manningham. The payoff for years of commitment to Ann Arbor. It was not to be.

                    • I'd say that Hart, Henne and Manningham's commitment to Ann Arbor has paid them well. All three continue their careers in the NFL, and Manningham even has a Super Bowl ring.

Of course I'm sure that Troy Smith would have a SB ring too, but he'd have sold it by now.

                      • As a Michigan fan I would think you would prefer that your players win more games in college than in the pros.

And 7 years later you're still moaning about the bomb-sniffing dogs...lol. This and accusations of dirty play are what you generally cling to when you're frustrated by losing.

                        • I get where you're going with this DSL ...... none of the current goings on have much to do with the embarrassment that was delivered to M for a decade by the buckeyes.

                          But wait ......

The Germans are still dealing with the Schadenfreude involving the Jews that was part of the culture of the Third Reich 60 years ago.

Otherwise pious Catholics continue to struggle with the sexual abuse that is a reality of the Catholic priesthood for its lifetime.

..... osu fans and the university represented by the football program that is full of the kinds of perversions of the Nazis and the Catholic Church will bear the burdens of the transgressions of jim tressel for years to come.

I've never heard the use of schadenfreude in relation to the Germans and the Jews. You can say they still suffer shame, embarrassment, and disgrace but not schadenfreude

schadenfreude is pleasure from the suffering of others. The final solution was something much more hateful, it was also 65-70 years ago, no concentration camps in 1950

And while I realize you're shooting for hyperbole, it's offensive to compare NCAA recruiting to child molestation and genocide

                              • I dunno if it's hyperbole or not. The Nazis and the Vatican collaborated, after all, on the Rat Line. ``Rat Line'' is a term so naturally fitting for Jim Tressell -- as if created specifically for him like a suit tailored on Savile Row -- that it is hard not to imagine a direct relation between The Fuhrer and The Sweatervest. And the color scheme is quite similar...
