  • Sure was. I was wrong. I'm not sure what your prediction on it was. Don't much care. I know what you're prediction for OSU going forward is, though: PAIN.

    • I'm terrified of Urban. Really, I'm terrified. I guess that I'll try to get my mind off of it by looking for travel deals to New Orleans. Talent -- do you think I should try to stay downtown within walking distance of the Superdome or should I stay a little further away? I think that I might just try expedia.

BTW I can recommend some great places to stay and eat in Detroit for the Pizza Bowl. Make sure that you eat at White Castle and sample the Vernors when you travel to see your team attempt to go 3-0 against the MAC. Maybe you guys can actually get a win in the state of Michigan this year.

      • Ah, now you've moved to the other extreme. This is just too good. I mean, I knew an honest discussion of Coach Meyer wasn't in the offing. But this reaction has been more than I could hope for.

Anywho, it's not surprising you'd ask for my help on BCS venues and such. OSU has won a few Sugar Bowls. I'd be happy to answer questions on attending BCS games. Personally, when I go to New Orleans for a BCS game, I like staying downtown within walking distance. Now, given that you'll most likely play Houston, I wouldn't buy tickets ahead of time. There will be gads and gads of face value before the game. Jackson Square for New Year's Eve is sort of nice in a Times Square way, but you may want to find a place a little more off the beaten path.

Enjoy the trip -- lord knows you've been waiting long enough.

        • 3,656 days. That's how long it has been since OSU beat Michigan without cheating. Damn that's gotta hurt (I'm giving you guys that 2001 game since none of those guys were recruited by Tressel and the rampant pay-for-play hadn't had time to take effect).

And this year, you're hoping that the friggin' Gator Bowl will invite you guys for some gimmick matchup when last year, RichRod actually got Michigan there based on merit (although Iowa deserved it more, I admit).

Did I mention that you should try eating at a donut shop while in Southeast Michigan? That area has the highest density of donut shops in the country. You aren't getting the full Detroit experience unless you eat at one.

And make sure to sample the Little Ceasar's while you're in town.

          • Ah, Hanni. You're drifting into your C game. Came out blasting, but to little effect. Now it's just shameful.

            What a great day!

Oh, and thanks for the Detroit advice. I have some friends who are NW fans (and gambling fans). They're really excited about NW going to that bowl as they can fold in a trip to Windsor. I'll be happy to pass along the advice. Much appreciated.

            • OSU's record the past four seasons without ineligible players taking money under the table....

              1999: 6-6
              2000: 8-4
              2001: 7-5 (I might be generous here)
              2011: 6-6

                • Ah, keep at it Hanni, you crak me up. I had no idea Coach Meyer's hiring would get under your skin so much. It's even a more glorious day than I anticipated.

                  • Actually, if I were making recommendations for OlieO fans visiting downtown Detroit, I'd suggest that they sample the fare at Lafayette Coney Island, or American Coney Island. Its more akin to what they are used to eating on big occasions, (weddings, bar-mitzvahs, anniversaries, etc.) and its fairly cheap. Of course there's the "gassy" thing afterward, but they're probably used to that.

The only thing that would rankle me, is if a bunch of them took over Cheli's. Now that, would be time for fisticuffs ...

                      • It ain't under my skin. We're 1-0 against him. He unofficially quit coaching after the 2009 season and left behind a mess at Florida. He'll have none of the star assistants that he had during his glory days at Florida. And he's taking over a team that just went 6-6 against an easy schedule and was one blown zone read and one long pass away from being 4-8. I'm no more terrified of Urban Meyer than I was of Brian Kelly. Personally, my unbiased opinion is that OSU has more of a rebuilding job on offense than people think. Miller will make an excellent spread QB, but the guys who will be his supporting cast next year weren't good at all this year.

                        • And FTR .. I am probably the only Michigan fan who isn't afraid of Urban Meyer.

I say bring him on. Lets do this.

I'm not concerned with whose name is on the door at the HC"s office in Columbus. Somebody has got to do it, and it may as well be Meyer. Let's see what he's got.

I'm happy with what Michigan is doing, and how the future looks from here.

                          • Good perspective, Liney. Now, answer my coney dog question.

Probably American Coney Island, although the difference between the two is about the thickness of a credit card. American uses Vidalia Onions, and Lafayettes uses Yellow Spanish onions.

Their coney sauce is basically the same. Although, there are some food fanatics who would shoot me for saying that.

And if you're in to such things, of the three downtown casinos, Greektown is the best. More good places to eat nearby, and the neighborhood is safe to walk in at any time day or night. When I take a break from the craps tables, I go to Pegasus, which is right next door. Great food.

                              • Greektown is where they always go. And, the craps table, too. I've never gone b/c it would, well, involve a trip to M.
