    • The sharks are circling ..... this is an op-ed piece, the first to appear following the latest Sarniak revelations. I have also read the latest c-bus dispatch piece which is factual but has a lot of spin in it. There is little chance that tressel is going to last into the summer at osu. If the school persists in retaining him, esp. after the Bruce Pearl firing at UT for less egregious offenses, the NCAA is going to look very disapprovingly at that which raises the specter of serious, long lasting sanctions. I think gee will bail on tressel before he will risk a death sentence from the NCAA that will cripple osu athletics for a decade.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • What is the 2-for-1 penalty for a coach knowingly playing multiple ineligible players for an entire season, and then later lying about it to the NCAA? (Hannibal)

I will guarantee you that at some point, we are going to learn that osu players have been getting paid on a large scale going back to Clarett (2001), that tressel knew about it and, in part, condoned and possibly orchestrated some of it.

..............like I said, tressel = Gotti (-) the murdering.

        • If something happens to JT, does Urban step in as the next OSU coach?

I think that's unlikely. A guy who quit once because of the stress and pressures isn't going to want to take over a program with ultra-high expectations and the cloud of NCAA sanctions looming over his head. I would guess that Heacock takes over as interim HC and he hires a DC and an OC. Then after one year, he either sticks or they go after a permanent head coach. I think that the #1 candidate would be Dantonio, if he's interested.

I hope that Tressel doesn't get fired. I don't want the University to avoid stiff penalties by fronting Saint Jim as a sacrificial lamb. I want to see scholarship losses and a bowl ban or two.

              • If JT is saying he didn't tell his superiors but did forward those emails to Pryor's 'mentor', I don't see anyway JT survives. Tressel is suppose to immediately report that information to compliance when he learns of it, that is one major violation there. Two later instances he was asked by the NCAA when he learned of the information and he 'supposedly' stated it was in December both times; more major violations, ones that the NCAA has came down real hard on in the past...

And if Tressel did inform his superiors, this is going to come down even harder on OSU's athletic department...

The 'first I heard of it', 'we'll look into it' working for JT in similar instances led him to believe he can get out of these type of situations. Running a rogue program has finally caught up to him and these were relatively small transgressions if he would've reported them when he knew of them. Instead he broke a handful of NCAA rules about knowing about it and lying about when he did find out about it; NCAA has never taken well to being lied too or cover ups. More or less, the NCAA rules relies on its universities to police and self report any potential violations, when your lying and covering up violations, that doesn't make the NCAA very happy as its usually safe to assume those institutions are lying, covering up and not reporting other major violations.

FWIW, Buckeye forums are full of Urban Meyer to the rescue discussions.

                • Most of you know more about this than I, but if it's bad enough that OSU would have to abandon Tressel, it's bad enough that they are going to face sanctions, no?

You tell me ...... will a coach with any kind of rep jump into the dung pile that is osu?

osu is going to get sanctions from the NCAA for this. No telling what they will be but they will get them.

I personally don't think Urban will make himself available. There are good choices to replace tressel already on the side line (? Fickle).

gee has to decide PDQ if he's going to make a smart move now and move on leaving the dung heap tressel left osu in the rear view mirror or stand by that sorry sack of shit thinking they can bail him out.

                    Interesting call for osu.

I'm exhilarated and feel personally released from the torment that has been the last 10 seasons. Now that we know those victories gained by that f'ing lier and sack of shit up north are hollow and meaningless, I am ecstatic.

                    • up north?

I too am delighted, but also eager to get back to a point at which The Game matters -- as in, competitive and fought fairly by two honorable programs. OSU shit all over its own legacy, but it also shit on a rivalry we all cherish, and both sides need to work to repair the damage done to its credibility.

                      • I'll believe that OhNo is dismissing Tressel when I see the presser introducing his successor.

Jim Tressel was hired for ONE thing, and ONE thing only. Beat Michigan. That's all that ever has mattered in Columbus. Beat Michigan.

Need to walk the tightrope with the rules? No problem. Teach your players to choke opponents, and attempt to break ankles in the pile?

No problem. Just beat Michigan, baby.

He's delivered on that to the tune of 9-1. That's all he needs to do. He could face SMU type sanctions, and still keep his job.

The only way Jim Tressel loses his job at OhNo is if he starts losing to Michigan. Lose 3 out of 4, and he's gone. Until then, he's safe.

Gold panties and OhNo memorabilia in exchange for tats? What's the problem? Everybody does it!

                        • up north?

I live in Atlanta. c-bus is up north from where I live.

Liney .... you cannot think that tressel is going to survive this.

gee is one of the shrewdest, most manipulative, political animals running a university in the nation. That's not a compliment. He's going to cut his losses and dump tressel despite his professed love for his "boss" who is nothing more than a lying sack of shit.

This is live for another day, UT/Bruce Pearl moment if I've ever seen one for osu and gee.

Still, I guess you could be right but I think the mood among osu supporters is shifting dramatically in light of the recent Sarkanian news. But, look, the NCAA is going to at the very least sit tressel for a season, pull scholarships, impose some post season play restrictions and vacate all of osu's 2010 wins. They may hand tressel a show cause letter which is exactly what he ought to get but may not.

Since osu f'ed over Delaney and got him to get involved to keep tp and the rest of the tat5 in the Sugar Bowl, making him look stupid for getting duped, Delaney is going to dump support from his office for tressel and probably for gee/smith/osu. He'll let the hammer drop from the NCAA without a whiff of protest. I'll bet Delaney is not taking phone calls from gee or has told him to get his act together and come begging with hat in hand and a plan that includes firing tressel if he wants his support.

osu is in damage control mode right now and osu needs to stop the hemorrhaging from the tress mess ASAP. The best way to do that is to fire the SOB. If gee doesn't he keeps a stinking turd in the house that is going to pollute recruiting, cast a pall over any kind of claim to honesty and integrity that osu has left and cause the NCAA to come down hard.

gee isn't that stupid ..... well, maybe he is and you're right.

                          • In the context of UM/OSU, though, ``up north'' means something else...

I hope all that's true Jeff. Logic would dictate that it is. We'll see tho...

                            • OSU became aware of this situation on Jan. 13, while reviewing information on an unrelated legal issue. The university’s Office of Legal Affairs notified the appropriate institutional officials and an investigation began immediately. After conducting additional fact finding, including questioning Tressel, the university notified the NCAA on Feb. 3, one day after signing day.

How convenient they notify the NCAA one day after signing day, a day after their recruiting class was committed to the university for the next four years.
