  • The Tressel era will always be looked at the same as the Bobby Bonds/Mark McGuire/Sammy Sosa era in baseball. The records are there, but they are hollow in meaning. The asterisk will always be there, and will only be ignored by those who support cheating in sports.

Nobody outside of some Giants fans recognize Barry Bonds as the all time home run leader. That is, and always will be, Hank Aaron...

Nobody outside of a few whacked-out St. Louis fans recognize Mark McGuire as the single-season home run hitter. That will always be Roger Maris.

The precious scoreboards that ohio fans place above everything else in life, still read what they read when the games happened. But the real fans of college football know the real score. Those lofty numbers were attained the same way that Bonds and McGuire made their marks. By cheating.

The rest of the college football world looks at ohio and the pitiful way its clinging to its history with Tressel in the same way that you look at a grasshopper in the fall. The grasshopper is hopping along, thinking that summer is going to last forever. But, alas, .. that first chill of fall hits, and reality sets in. And, its too late, because his fate is sealed.

The best that ohio can hope for is that their current coach screws up this season badly enough so that their next savior gets the job next year.

    Sounds familiar.

But, I must temper my thoughts with the bold prediction of our august legal expert here who assures us that nobody, and I mean nobody .. will ever beat ohio again, in any sport ... from 2012 forward.

And this, he assures us, .. was the reward left behind by Saint Jim.

... and here I thought that the newly expanded Big Ten was going to be interesting ...

    • Speaking of real gold, OSU Equipment Department has had an opportunity to complete a forensic audit and it ain't good news. Apparently just before Tresseel resigned in disgrace, he order several thousand of these babies. Since then, they have been popping up at every "Blind Pig, Cat House and Tattoo Parlor" in the State of Ohio.

Tresseel was finally reached for comment from his cozy undisclosed lair in the "non-extradition State of Indiana": "I let Pryor and several of his teammates get away with it for years, why should they be the only ones profit? Besides those bastards threw me under the bus! I guess Herbie was right, I've been recruiting the wrong kind of players for years. "

Authorities estimate the theft at nearly a 1/2 million dollars.

        • Nobody recognizes the records and titles from the past 10 years? Really! So if I call up the Big 10 office and ask who the conference champ in 2006 was, who will they tell me it was? Michigan? Alas, a forelorn dream

                    • This has been one of the best smack interchanges I've seen in a decade.

                      Putting things in perspective .......

Michigan has had little to sass about since 2001. It does now and yes, all because "jim tressel failed to forward an email" (LMFAO) ..... what ever.

There are no historical mysteries to the scumbaggery that has infested the buckeye football program since jim tressel replaced cooper. cooper was a good football coach but because he couldn't beat Michigan and wouldn't cheat to do it, he got fired.

Frankly, I don't think we'll ever see the full extent of the cheating tressel undertook or the damage that tressel did to CFB. We've only seen the tip of the iceberg with what's gone down so far. The NCAA has seen to that hoping to keep parties interested in tighter regulation of CFB at bay in the process of adjudicating osu's out of control and scandalous decades worth of behavior .... all of it intended to advance osu's football program and, what else, BEAT MICHIGAN.

On to the scene comes tressel. It started right away - the cheating - with MoC ..... then troy smith, then terrell pryor. All of them on the take in a system of pay for play that without any doubt in my mind was constructed by none other than jim tressel. Why wouldn't he do that? He did it at YSU and was successful in the game as well as in denying he knew anything; he just imported his underground of hoods and low lifes from Youngstown, along with his denials that he knew anything at all about these payments, to c-bus. He should get credit for that.

..... then he delivered by beating LC's Michigan, releasing the angst of the osu nation over the cooper years. He followed that up with victories over a hapless Michigan football program coached by Rich Rodriguez's 110th nationally ranked defense ..... oooooh, impressive. We should raise osu's status to the top of the B1G for achieving such startling victories ..... guffaw.

Ultimately we find that victory, as meaningless as it was, probably the 2006 victory and osu's first victory over M in 2001 were achieved playing ineligible players, and not just unimportant ones, the star QBs in 2006 and 2010 and the guy that scored the winning TD in 2001, MoC.

osu fans want us to ignore the massive cheating in recruiting that went on during tressel's watch and pay for play schemes that brought HS players to c-bus and kept them there and then expect us to roll over as they rub these obvious indignities to the game of CFB in our faces. This is to be expected.

Yes, due to tressel's massive lying and cheating, the cupboard is still stocked at osu; there's good talent there albeit brought to columbus by boosters giving $100 hand shakes to high school kids .... laudable ..... while at the same time writing crap in a book about playing with integrity. Stunning.

Yep, BEATING MICHIGAN was goal #1 at osu after the cooper years and jim tressel delivered but not without leaving a steaming pile of dog shit in front of his office as he bailed, along with his co-conspirator, terrell pryor, to avoid having to provide testimony to the NCAA. No longer under their supervision, no such testimony can be compelled. Of course they didn't know that when they fled c-bus.

But go ahead ..... live in your fantasy world of being the flagship team of the B1G. It's befitting of the kind of delusions of grandeur that have marked tressel's ascendancy. That ascendancy built on lies. Like Monkeys, the higher they go up the banana tree, the more of there ass there is to see. Enjoy it up there, the world of CFB is laughing at you and Michigan fans like me are enjoying the hell out it.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                      • How the fuck anyone says Clarett was ineligible in 2002 and Smith in 2006 is beyond me. The Smith thing, in particular, is so audaciously fucking stupid it's hard to comprehend. But, I suppose if facts are zero importance to the theory, then you can say anything. And clearly Buchanan has zero interest in facts. And, sadly, I rate him as, without question, the most reasonable amongst you. So, this exchange pretty squarely reminds me of so many things. As WM correctly noted -- it's ridiculous to for me to post over here. Truly. So, carry on gents. This is just silly beyond belief -- even by the uber low standards of internet message board smackfests. However, it will make Ohio State's standard asskicking of M in November a bit more enjoyable for me.

                        • Agree with liney on history not recognizing Tressel's dominant decade. Fans of other B10 teams that I've talked to feel the same; MSU, Wisconsin, Illinois. Not that they'll ever vacate those wins, championships but they are about as valid as SMU's NT in '81.

                          • If you don't have the law, you argue the facts; if you don't have the facts, you argue the law; if you have neither the facts nor the law, then you argue on the behalf of James Tressel.

LMAO...yeah let's ask Sparty and Chief Illiniwik if they recognize OSU's 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, or 2010 titles. And if they don't, well, who really cares?

Even if the NCAA and Big Ten still recognize you as champs, rest assured I and my Wolverweenie brethren will refuse to do the same forevermore! You'll have to live with that shame forever!!
