  • My post was addressing the above post. The perception is not that Ohio State beats M like a rented stepmule. It is that OSU and Tressle were skirting the rules, and OSU has gotten away with it.
Those aren't mutually exclusive. Do your informal poll and ask your friends if they think OSU has owned M over the past 10 years. Of course, that's more absolute fact, not perception. Or ask them if they think OSU "cheated" to beat the utter garbage RichGOD threw on the field.

Anyway, if you want to try to excuse 10 years of total destruction because Coach Tressel failed to forward along the Cicero tip, so be it. I don't blame you. It's been a rough, rough, rough stretch for you boys.

It is more akin to a criminal case, in that things look shady, and there is reason to suspect that something funky was going on, but there is not clear and convincing or definitive evidence (like a smoking gun), and therefore, not enough to convict.
Not only no smoking gun -- well, except for the self-reported e-mails -- but a lack of even sufficient circumstantial evidence to make out any case. Unfortunately, folks believe what they read or see on the news. Veracity isn't of much concern to them. And thus a perception is made. If I thought the perception more justified, I might care. But, alas, I'm all-too familiar with the facts, so I know better.

      • I suppose I could ask them, if they cared about the results of the OSU-UM football games. They don't like either team, so they really don't care either way who wins or who "owns" who. But yes, they all think UM sucked under RR, which is also what most UM fans think. Anyway, the point was and is that they think OSU and Tressle were cheating.

I don't think anywhere in any of my posts I have attempted to "try to excuse 10 years of total destruction". All I posted was what the perception of non-UM fans outside of Ohio think.

There was enough evidence for Tressel to resign, Pryor to leave early, and an NCAA investigation and hearing. Is there enough for some drastic penalty? No, and I have never posted that OSU would receive some huge penalty. My point was and is, that there was enough smoke out there to raise suspicious of what was going on during Tressel's tenure. This is especially true when Smith says Tressel has the full support of the university, then he eventually resigns. You don't have to read Forde or any other columnist to see that and be suspicious.

Well, its been fun, but I really need to get some work done.

            • And he is, by all reports here, one of the mentally nimble ones down there. One can only imagine the torture faced by the masses of everyday Ohioans who lack the ability to convicingly lie themselves. There's your silent suffering.

              • The perception of Penn State fans is that Big10 referees have, for a long time, been cheating on behalf of Michigan and conspiring to cheat them out of many wins in the series.

Are they crazy? Is perception reality in that case? Or are only the rambling, distorted perceptions of a diseased Michigan mind to be taken seriously?

                • Dan Wetzel tweeted a few hours ago that OSU's hearing was over in a "brisk" 3.5 hours and that it is unlikely that the NCAA charged us with very much and will probably accept our self sanctions. Meaning no bowl ban or scholarship reductions unless something new pops up.

                  • The NCAA committee will determine Ohio State's sanctions , not Dan Wetzel, DSL , Talent or OSU. Moreover, you've been collectively wrong about nearly every aspect since this latest scandal OSU broke, although amusing kindly reserve your opinion. Now return to the kiddie table......

Dan Wetzel, whomever he is, must have fallen asleep. According to the Detroit News and ESPN, the meeting took over four hours.

And I must regrettably agree with Strangelove. I don't think any additional sanctions will be forthcoming.

The message will be, any school not named ohio better not cheat. If you're named ohio,... go for it. The rules don't apply to you.

It's fairly easy if you just follow the facts. I'm not interested in chasing down Santa Claus, so, you know, it's pretty straight-forward for me. BTW, how are thing on the North Pole?

Or George Dorhman or the Columbus Dispatch or ESPN OTL or any other "news organization" that has been demonstrably fucking wrong about Ohio State. Thank. Fucking. God.

As I said, if this is purely in the hands of the NCAA, there's NO WAY the NCAA pushes past the self-imposed sanctions. The ONLY WAY the NCAA goes beyond the self-imposed sanction is if they do exactly what OP is cautioning against -- falling prey to outside folks armed with little more than abject conjecture.

Man, OP, from your keyboard to Emmert's ears, let it be true that the NCAA, and only the NCAA, decides this issue on the facts before the committee. Please F'n God let it be true.

Like a moth to a flame. 48 hours indeed! I think that was two weeks ago.

By the way, in this instance the word "Moth" (actually moath when Skakespeare first used the phrase) was used to describe someone who was apt to be tempted by something that would lead to their downfall.

Welcome back. I KNEW you couldn't stay away. Slimy bastard. Heh.

                          • So let's see....

The OSU administration ignored the fire coming out of the AD for the last 10 years.

Tressel finally got caught, after who knows how many other violations he had committed, but the first one with any hard evidence or where the only evidence wasn't a kid who could be gotten to and bought off (Clarett, etc.)

The OSU administration throws Tressel under the bus and claims, like Colonel Klink, that they know nothing.

And people actually buy this? Seriously?

Everyone else in the Big Ten knew Tressel was cheating for years. He's just been the master of vaporizing the evidence trail. How is it possible that the OSU administration was completely blind to it?

                              • Ohio is not going to get too many more if any penalties from this unless someone else talks and really exposes the slime. They will get away with it, and none of this is much of a surprise.

However, it is truly wonderful that the slimebag with 9*-1 record has been exposed for the hypocritical SOS cheater that he is. One of the most successful coaches in O-state history tossed out in shame.... GREAT!!!!

My only disappointment will be if the NCAA doesn't give the Cheating Vest a Show Cause as his parting "retirement" gift.
