  • patience, the wheels of justice mover very slowly. As for today, the NCAA will pretend to be in charge when actually, it's ABC/ESPN, NBC, CBS, Fox, Nike & Adidas that actually call the shots.

Not comfortable with the Gee/Emmert relationship, let's hope the committee is not swayed by outside influences. This is better than the Scopes Trial!

Well were I you I probably would have talked myself into same. It's human nature to cling to those memories when they are all you have.

        • Regardless of the outcome today ( I guess 8-12 weeks before the NCAA swings its axe?) the single most important fact in all of this is that Tressel was exposed as a liar, a cheater, a hypocrite & an unethical douchebag. Imagine if he escaped Columbus in retirement BEFORE his "Cash, Cars & Courtesans" program was fully exposed. Sorry Jim there will be no "South Bend, Indiana" for you just a legacy of shame.

          • Jim Tresel's hearing has ended, he left a prepared statement and apologized, (sort of).

''I had an open and constructive exchange with the committee on infractions,'' the statement read. ''They were well prepared and will now go about their work in deliberations. Again, I would like to apologize to the Buckeye nation, most especially to the players, staff and fans who remain so dear to me, I am truly sorry I got caught.''

Hmmm, seems we're still waiting for that one to be exposed, so he still has a chance. As it stands, he's guilty of not forwarding along a tip from Cicero re Pryor and Posey. Such is life.

Well I dunno about that. Even semi-sentient Ohioans like talent are engaging in all sorts of intellectual machinations. That sort of half-baked neanderthal logic is easily spotted as such outside Ohio, so why would Tressel ever leave? He can be governor. Or, forget that -- build a wall around it instead. Look to within. They've already mastered the demonization of the virtuous neighboring peoples and a completely fatuous creation myth, so from there it's a few simple steps to issue stamps and passports. Have a sham election and then he can declare himself President Jim For Life. Future elections optional.

The rest of us will save on farm subsidies and enjoy internet photos of the long line of talented young athletes applying for student visas at the US Embassy in Columbus.

                • what DID YOU DO to improve the atmosphere of compliance within which coach tressel was operating. Did you make him more accountable? How? ..... and so forth.
They might not be asking that question, acutally, as the investigators found OSU's compliance was fine.

let's hope the committee is not swayed by outside influences.
Me, too! My god -- if the committee operates in a vacuum outside the gross speculatiion and unsupported allegations ginned up by the press, this is a no-brainer. Affirm OSU's proposed penalties and put a show-cause on Tressel. Done and done. I fear, however, that the NCAA will place less emphasis on facts and evidence and more on public perception. Small fear, but a fear nonetheless.

                  • Another opinion from Wetzel:

"Ohio State meeting over in a brisk 3.5 hours. Like I said this morning Bucks in clear, NCAA charged them w little."

And from Gene Smith (more or less addressing the threat of some disastrous "continued investigation"):

"Following this hearing, we will be working with the NCAA staff to move forward to wrap up our inquiry into any remaining issues. We are aware of a letter that the NCAA enforcement staff sent to the Committee on Infractions nearly a month ago detailing the status of this case. The NCAA staff concluded that the evidence at this time does not warrant additional allegations and that our joint review of any remaining items did not necessitate a delay to today’s hearing."

talent ..... what were the details, if you have them, of the NCAA investigation of osu Compliance regarding your statement, "it was fine?"
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                      • It was in the letter the NCAA sent to Ohio State in advance of the hearing summarizing what they had found. My knowledge is based on that letter.

                          • It was the letter that had you in a froth to begin with -- where the NCAA, after concluding their investigation into the NoA, concluded that FtM and LoIC were not appropriate. The NCAA ran down all the things OSU compliance did and concluded that a failure to monitor was not appropriate.

I mean, look -- I know I know this shit far better than you guys do because, well, the facts so favor Ohio State relative to the insipid media shitstorm. But surely you at least read that letter.

                            • And by that you mean ``the lack of evidence''? You have so much to be proud of!

                              • When one is asked to prove a negative, pointing to the other side's "lack of evidence" is often the best you can do. Though, I understand that "Michigan Men" would prefer that Ohio State be asked to prove a negative and then be unable to point to a lack of evidence for the positive.

In any event, there is evidence in support of Ohio State and a lack of evidence in support of allegations beyond those before NCAA. I'm fine with that.
