  • He played the same teams at Utah that Coach Hoke did at SDS (and, incidentally, the same teams at BG that Coach Hoke did at Ball State).

Coach Meyer, in the B10, also wouldn't have to deal with navigating the SEC.

Coach Meyer would instantly restore Ohio State as one of the elite programs (to the extend losing a legend like Tressel and gaining a newbie like Fickell have dropped them outside the top 5).

Whether he won national titles or not, he would, IMO, be a perfect transition to a long-term coach.

That said, I would still be surprised if he is coaching at OSU in 2012.

More importantly (because it's reality) the current QB rotation on the first day of camp is Bauserman, Guiton, Graham and Miller. I've been trying to black out the thought of the Joe Bauserman Experience, but I think it will be a reality. With unproven WRs, to boot.

    • Hell, Rich Rodriguez almost made it to the MNC game by playing in the Big East. Obviously, he can coach, but I don't believe he'd be as successful at tosu as he was at Florida, unless he was able to bring in a boatload of southeastern kids. He'd put together a hell of a team, but I think Michigan could compete as they did in Lloyd Carr's last game.

        • "The lack of written evaluations=failure to monitor. My god, the number of assumptions it takes to get there....Woof."

You can be such a tool sometimes (well most of the time and only somewhat forgivable because of your blind support of a corrupt organization).

You know this .... does your boss monitor all your emails? I know mine doesn't and if he did I'd be in trouble. But do you and I both know we are damn well accountable for the quality of the work we deliver every work day? Damn straight.

Did tressel know he was accountable to geiger? Well, presuming he is a living organism (some will doubt this), when your boss gives you a 3 (in a 1-3 ranking system, 1 being meets expectations and 3 meaning might be a shit bird), I think I would watch my p's and q's if I were tressel.

So along comes smith (who some wonder if he was brought in to be jt's tool b/c geiger was too much of a hard ass). He decides not to evaluate tressel in writing. Why? Could it be because of a wink and a nod to the senator himself? That never goes on among folks in high places with a lot of clout does it? That gee actually said, as dumb, un-thought out as to its implications and ill-conceived as this statement was, "I hope he (tressel) doesn't fire me." What does this say? You cannot escape the obvious conclusion that tressel, in a Godfather like way, was running the show with his capos (smith and gee) in tow ..... you cannot.

Obviously, I'm jaded. I admit that. The suffering of osu fans is my hearts desire. The squirming idiocy of the pronouncement of osu officials in response to allegations of cheating is music to my ears. But beyond that, there is a set of inescapable conclusions ..... albeit a connecting of dots ..... that are shared by sports fans and those connected with college football that are much less jaded than I.

The stink is on you guys and may it last for a long time going forward.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Uh, you can, but only if you base your conclusions on fact.

I don't even know where to start. In fact, that underlines the utterly delusional underpinings of the whole theory.

You know this .... does your boss monitor all your emails? I know mine doesn't and if he did I'd be in trouble.
Indeed. And I have to say, during my evaluations we had a "written summary statement" and then 30 minutes of oral evaluation explaining exactly where you stood. Everyone knew that the oral evaluation from the you big picture boss was what counts -- his gloss on the written stuff. And TBH, whether oral or written, I lived in mortal fear of reviews. Now, perhaps you think that written evaluations instead of oral evaluations would have somehow led Tressel to forward the Cicero e-mails properly. The the threat of being reprimanded on paper greatly outweighed the threat of being reprimanded orally. I rather doubt it. (1) Whether reviewed orally or written, he would still be in deep shit if Smith found out; and (2) lo and behold, he was in deep shit when Smith found out.

I suppose Smith probably fired him orally instead of with a nice written letter. Rather, persuaded him to resign orally. Another sure sign that Tressel ran everything.

But you know what, let's take a step back and look at the bigger picture because the way you're championing Geiger goes a bit against the prevailing fantasy of "10 years of corruption" under Tressel. TEN YEARS. Make up your mind, would you? Either AG was a badass AD with is fearsome "written" evaluations that was able hold Tressel in line [and therefore, Tressel's reign of out-of-countrol corruption didn't start until Smith arrive], or Tressel was an evil mastermind who couldn't be stopped by anyone [and thus 10 years of villainy!]. Make up your mind, please. I understand that when you're spinning one wild hypothesis after another, it's tough to keep them consistent. But please, try. Thanks in advance.

              • Indeed. Well, again, the hearing isn't the end. Ohio State will have to wait some period before the NCAA issues its ruling. It will be great to move on and get geared up for an awesome 2012. Tough to more or less lose a season, but such is life.

I know, but it would be mostly Ohio talent. At Florida he ruled the Southeast.

                  • Meyer is finished coaching. Prepare yourself for somebody else.

                    • I'm prepared.

I would, however, wager a fair sum that Meyer will coach again at some point.

I think I might take that wager. Meyer was visibly burned out last year. If he comes back to coaching, I think that we are more likely to see the 2010 version than the 2008 version.

                          • He has more issues than "burn out". He has health issues that he needs to take seriously.

"Ruled"? Are you saying all the other SEC teams fought for scraps left from Florida? That certainly wasn't the case.

                              • I don't get terrified of any specific coach. Every situation is different. I'd rather Fickell be at OSU than Meyer, but if it's Meyer, I'm not going to shit my pants. He's somewhat of an unknown commodity at this point. From 2002 through 2009, he was arguably the best coach in the country. In 2010, his team practically fell off a cliff. One factor that looks significant to me, in addiition to burnout/health problems, is the loss of some outstanding assistant coaches. Greg Mullen and Charlie Strong, and especially Dan Mullen. He was with Meyer through his whole run of glory until 2009. The guy that Meyer chose to replace him sucked.
