No way James Franklin’s squad pulls off the miracle upset on Saturday though. I shouldn’t get my hopes up.
Agreed.
Franklin may find a way to make OSU squirm a bit in the first half, but there's no way his defense can contain everything that CRD and OSU can throw at them on offense.
Michigan scored 31 on PSU. OSU will nearly double that.
"The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"
Finally, JSN apparently has a minor hamstring injury and should be back in a "couple of weeks."
Those hammy's are tricky, I would rest him for a good month. You think your fine and go full speed and tweak it and your season is down the drain basically.
The big matchup to me is Ohio State’s running game vs Penn State’s run defense. That’s where M had the huge advantage vs Penn State. Can Manny Diaz’s defense patch it up vs Henderson and Williams? Questionable.
Penn State’s defense actually did well vs the M passing offense. They have some good athletes in the back 7… led by Porter Jr. of course.
Clifford and the Penn State offense is always hit and miss. They need Nick Singleton to live up to the hype to have a shot.
Rooting for Penn State big time because as noted before… a Penn State win today might secure a M Big Ten Championship appearance due to the tiebreaker.
Not pulling at all for a PSU win over osu as a means to get M into the BTCG through the back door. M has to win at c-bus.
Cody is right that M had a run game advantage based on the skill set of M's two headed RB attack running behind a very good OL that osu doesn't have. They don't have the RBs, the osu OL is probably as good, the net result will be a osu run game that totals less than what M racked up and isn't able to dictate game flow.
M eviscerated Diaz's hybrid 3-3-5 nickel scheme by gashing the front 6 in the run game and punishing Diaz's tendency to bring 3 Ss into the box with chunk runs and selective chain moving throws to open receivers running inot space vacated by those Ss. Harbaugh dictated the game flow.
While M advantaged its run game to control the game flow and win, osu has the capacity to punish a DIaz defense if he trots out the same 3-3-5 nickel D not with their run game but rather with the best pass offense in CFB - stroud hitting open receivers running free into the intermediate and deep zones of the field vacated by Ss stepping up to defend the run. If I were CRD, I'd be running offensive formations that scream, it's a run but then, it isn't. Suck the Ss up, run routes into vacated zones, move the chains, control the game.
There's a risk here though. A predominantly pass oriented offense is susceptible to turnovers v. a typical Diaz schemed 3-3 5 defense because that D is designed to fool a QB into forcing throw's into tight windows when that QB doesn't recognize the Ss aren't stepping up and his receivers don't adjust their routes. Key chess match here between Diaz and CRD.
I think talent's concerns about an uncomfortable game v. PSU in HV are justified. I'd give osu a slight edge because of stroud. If Sean Clifford and his receivers have a great game though, it's going to make it hard for the buckeyes to win. If the game plays out as a duel of big plays between QBs that stroud doesn't dominate early to give osu a big lead and Clifford keeps it close into the 4th quarter, the KO analytics that predict an 80% chance of an osu win is going to drop to 50/50.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
Took a break. Been reading all along. Bit disappointed that the politics portion here has degraded to all smack and no fact, but hey, it’s to be expected this close to Election Day. What’s really important though is seeing a football shoved up Sparty ass this evening.
I don't watch Fox News for the same reason I don't eat out of a toilet.
osu can't run the ball..... but they can snake Clifford.

PSU's first three possessions ..... INT, INT, Punt. 10-0 osu. If osu could run the ball it would be 21 - Zip

14-10 PSU. The nits have overcome two INTs - one on Clifford, the other a batted ball. osu's inability to run and some questionable play calling on the part of CRD cost osu TDs when they setteled for a FG after one PSU turnover and shanked the second FG attempt after another PSU turnover..
