Yeah, there was a tremendous upgrade in the defensive coaching staff compared to a year ago, almost all new faces. There are holes on the defensive roster yet MacDonald managers to not get exploited by them every Saturday.

I really can't overstate how sad I was to see DON BROWN!!!! depart. He had literally zero chance of every stopping a good offense. Zero. I knew a modestly competent replacement would be a huge upgrade. I have no idea whether the new DC is actually really good or not. But I do know that they he's actively trying to avoid putting his players in a position to fail. And that totally fucking sucks.

They did love talking about Brown on the telecasts though. It would be an interesting thought experiment to see what he would have done with the defense and the two pass rushers fully operational. When you have that you should not blitz all that much, but you know Dr. Blitz the would been dialing them up.

Brown had an elite pair of DEs in 2018 and he still gave up 62 points to OSU -- with a couple of excellent DBs and an elite linebacker too.

Here’s what needs to happen for a Sparty upset:
1. Near perfect on offense.
No turnovers. Possess the ball. Kenneth Walker Heisman game. Timely plays by the MSU passing offense.
2. MSU Defense can give up yards as expected, but create a couple turnovers and make key stops in the red zone.
3. Try to be physical with the Ohio State WRs and pray the refs let them play.
4. At least one fake punt or onside kick to create an extra possession.
5. Finalize the contact extension with Mel Tucker by Sunday if his team pulls off the miracle.

Nobody knows about Nailor, but they have quite a deep receiving corps. The more important injury in my opinion is the Coghlin injury, not being able to kick 40 yard field goals is an issue.

I understand Jeff, this is a tough one. Sometimes I start watching and think I want team A to beat team B till I see the uniforms and kickoff and the hate kicks in. But I really do like Mel Tucker and hate osu's Day. osu 48 - msu 19
