  • Michigan fans should be taking their cues from Mike Hart. He took no pleasure in Tressel's demise, essentially stating that if they wanted to feel like they'd won anything, they should have beaten him on the field. Not experiencing schadenfreude long after the fact. Mike Hart has some integrity to come out and admit that he would rather have beaten OSU on the field and doesn't view this current debacle as a "victory" for Michigan. Sadly, few Michigan fans live up to that standard.

As for Kalis, until Tressel resigned he was "100% committed to OSU" and a "lifelong Buckeye fan". So basically you're getting one of The Senator's biggest fans. CONGRATS!

I wouldn't think a true Michigan Man would want any part of a kid who had even considered Ohio State at any point?

      • Its footage of an event in which the team in red knowingly used ineligible players, doing so to create a competitive advantage over its opponents.

How many times do we have to go over this with you, Strangelove? This isn't about winning a football game against your Schmucknuts. The games under the Tressel regime are gone, over with, finished. Nothing will change the results of those games. I don't think most Michigan fans would want forfeited wins over OLieO. This is about how Tressel went about gaining those wins. Since we now know that he's a liar and cheater, who's to say he limited it to the 2010 season? Chances are very good that he's been doing it all along, but didn't get caught. Now, .. he's been caught.

As far as I'm concerned, if you OLieO fans want to revel in the heady days of the lying and cheating Tressel regime, then help yourselves. Wallow in it like a pig in slop. I really don't care.

When young Mr. Kalis committed to Michigan today, I doubt that he was thinking about Mr. Tressel, or anyone/anything in Columbus. He had his eyes focused on his future as a man, and as an athlete. He will become a Michigan Man, one of many from Ohio who proudly wear that label. Obviously, when young Mr Kalis checked out the University of Michigan for himself, he was more impressed with it, than what he saw in Columbus. Slam him if it makes you feel better, but he will end up reaping the rewards of his decision.

Charles Woodson considered OLieO. So did Elvis Grbac, Desmond Howard, Marcus Ray, the list goes on and on. Many former Michigan players also considered OLieo. We don't hold it against them for taking a look. The final decision is what counts. Kalis, like the many Michigan Men from ohio before him, has made the right decision.

          • I'm pretty sure Charles Woodson, Elvis Grbac, Desmond Howard and Marcus Ray weren't Ohio caliber and Ohio didn't want them.

              • Kalis would be going to OSU if Tressel were still there. He greatly admired him. Does that say anything about Kalis' character, since you all think Tressel is no one to admire?

                • More deflection.

Kalis doesn't want to be associated with the shameful program that OlieO has become, Tressel would still be there if he hadn't gotten caught cheating.

                  • If you're going to go trolling, use better bait.

I would think that Kalis is just as disappointed with the whole sordid affair as the 1% of the buckeye nation that is actually cognizant and coherent. Perhaps he's also a tad embarassed for his choice in whom to admire. Kalis has (correctly) assessed that there are better places than osu to attend. Something many of us have known for a long, long time.

                    • Maybe Kalis knows Michigan can hook him up with a booster with lots of cash or an agent like they got for Charles Woodson.

                        • Heard an interesting discussion Sunday evening on 24/7 Sports Radio (Sirius) about how the NCAA might implement a meaningful sections protocol that would dissuade programs from loophole searching and out-right rule breaking.

A CBS Sports writer stated that of 70 some schools that have had major sanctions since 1989, none of them had worse records, attendance or income after the sanctions expired. Most had BETTER records. IOW, it's clear that NCAA sanctions are not painful enough to keep programs from taking risks and playing loosely (Oregon's conduct with Lyles/Seastrunk is a very good example of playing loosely).

Seems there is inside talk of the major programs stepping out of the NCAA, forming a separate association and developing rules that work for their particular needs. To these elite programs, the notion that Mountain Valley State College plays at the same level and with the same earning potential as Alabama, for example, just isn't working. The attempt over the last decade or so by the various interests to level the playing field and allow smaller programs to compete for revenue generated by the Bowl System is flawed. It makes sense to start over for the top football programs.

Interestingly, unlike the NCAA Basketball Tournament, the NCAA does not control any of the money involved in the bowl system. Thus, the NCAA cannot impose meaningfully financial penalties for rules violators like osu (i.e., return or redistribute bowl or TV money). The B10 could, but its not likely they will take that unprecedented step.

The NCAA can direct a loss of scholarships and the general feeling in this discussion was that a big hit occurs if the NCAA takes ALL of a rule violators scholarships for a year or two. That would set a program back in a big way as the best players would not even think of playing off scholarship when there are options to go some where Else and play on scholarship.

I'm in favor of canning the NCAA mostly because rewriting the NCAA rule book would take decades and something needs to be done now. The chances of that happening are small though but could increase if dirty programs, once again, escape getting hammered in any meaningful way that will keep them from returning to their old, cheating ways after the dust settles.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Michigan successfully covered up Woodson being ineligible for the 97 Rose Bowl, correct. And never received its richly deserved punishment.

                            I know I know..."deflection"...

So to not deflect, we will receive a just punishment and serve our time and then go back to routinely humiliating the Wolverines. The kids abandoning The Ohio State do so not out of love for Michigan. They are just afraid of not being able to play in a bowl game or not being allowed to win the conference title. Once that punishment goes away, the incentive to go play for Greatest Coach in the History of Ever Brady Hoke will evaporate.
