  • Serious question for Doc Strangelove, or anyone else who lives in ohio:

What does the feeling seem to be about Fickell? Are football fans circling the wagons around him, or are they taking a wait and see approach?

    Just curious.

Ohio state BMV clears OSU players car purchases; no illegal transactions; OSU cancelling independent investigation

An investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles of two Columbus-area automobile dealerships found that no state laws were broken in the recording or pricing of some of the used car deals given to Ohio State football players and family members.

In an May 18 letter, James Mitchell, executive director of the Ohio Independent Automobile Dealers' Association, wrote that he was summoned by Goss to examine the dealership's Ohio State-related sales. He wrote that he found no irregularities and that "gross profits were in line with or in excess of the national average" reported by a national association of used-car dealers. Goss said he was pleased with the BMV findings and that "the allegations made against Auto Direct were proven to be false."

      • this is good news for the Bucks.

Delaney has good sway at the NCAA and will help spin this to O-state's advantage despite Tressel's lies and other Buck improprieties (I don't know how the sales data exonerates all the use of vehicles by TP without a sale)... I agree with DSL that the Bucks will get a minor slap relative to USC.

However, hopefully the damage to reputation and out-of-state recruiting will be severe.

            • Well now that it is clear beyond a shadow that Pryor never got any good deals on cars, that settles that...

LMAO. The "investigation" by the BMV only made sure that there was no illegal activity or unpaid taxes. It says nothing about inappropriate trade-in values for old cars, or who happened to provide the cash for all of the cars.

And we haven't even gotten into Pryor's "loaners" yet.

The denial in Buckeye nation is hilarious.

Lots more to come still, probably. ESPN and SI are still in town working on another story. All of this is just what we know without anyone agressively using the FOIA like the Freep did against Rodriguez.

Of course not, because it was never about "family values" to begin with. It was about Justina Boren getting upset because the coaches called him "larda$$", and refused to cater to him because he was a "legacy" player and returning starter.

That is one case where I felt Rich Rodriguez got it absolutely right.

No, I think his pride will triumph over his integrity.

                              • Investigators examined 25 vehicle sales from Jack Maxton Chevrolet and Auto Direct to OSU players and relatives. Their report stated that the dealerships made a profit on 24 of the sales. The BMV did not disclose the prices the dealers paid for the vehicles. The report said the numbers were proprietary business information.

That's only half of the 50 car deals that o-lie-o was interested in and which half was it? The whole state is lying and cheating.
