    • Kinda leaves an acrid, noxious taste in yer mouth, doesn't it?

Ya never get rid of that taste, no matter what the NCAA does

        • DSL.. I want nebraska to beat OSU regardless of their state. I'm perfectly fine with kicking you guys when you are down.

          Just saying.. =)

          • I don't think the compliance guy getting a courtesy car is a big deal. For some bizarre reason, this seems to happen at several schools. I can't really imagine why, but it does.

Welcome to the wonderful world of osu hating.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

              • From Rivals:

These are comments from Smith speakng at a convention of ADs.

First, he stated OSU is considering hiring private investigators as part of their compliance program. The cynic in me thinks that is to make sure the players aren't cheating so brazenly and out in the open, but keep it more subtle and hidden. Either that or it is just posturing and is something that won't ever happen.

                Then he made these comments:

Smith agreed with him, telling him being fired in their industry is something that is "just around the corner."

"The reality is I wake up every morning and I look in the mirror and I say to myself I do things right and I do things with integrity," Smith said. "If they fire me, I'm fine because they fired me for another reason ? politics, PR, whatever. But I know in my heart what I did was right."

Sounds like a guy expecting to be fired.

                • All part of the plan down there. Things are going along just fine. Nothing to see here.

                  • Here's the article from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. I wonder if osu will use this as a recruiting tool: "Come to osu and we'll have some cheapass gumshoe in a cheesey trenchcoat shadow you!"

A Task Force that includes 12 athletic directors is trying to put in a place a model to help even compliance across school lines.

                    • Yes, I'm sure the reason he's fearful for his job was because he did it with such integrity. That makes perfect sense.

I mean, whenever I do my job particularly well, I fully expect to quit or be fired.

                      • .............. I have no sympathy for gene smith. Besides the fact that he is the AD at osu and deserves our scorn, he is a perfect example of guy riding so high up that he fails to see the dirt below because the people hired to pay attention, weren't while blowing plenty of smoke up his ass.

My suspicion is that jt was victimized in a similar fashion but he was also complicit to some extent and the paper trail suggests it rather convincingly.

I'll have to give Dave Brandon credit for getting rid of Draper and Labadee - probably the two biggest fish in the CARA mishap. Judy Van Horn, while playing a much lesser role in the mess, still didn't push what she knew up the chain when she realized she was getting stonewalled by Draper. She's gone too. That is also a good sign. The message from Brandon? .... do your job or you're fired.

Big time programs like M and osu cannot tolerate people responsible for ensuring their football programs are in compliance who, through their own inaction, greed, desire for perks, whatever, don't do the jobs they are paid to do.

tressel went down for that (and more I suspect). gene smith is going down for just that too. Yeah, he may have thought he was doing everything right but his perceptions were based on bad information.

Sweet indeed, but can we simply assume that OSU went from clean to SMU?

                          • Because they hired a coach with that kind of track record?

                            • They knew what they were getting, yes, but in general I just don't see a reason to assume this. Beating Michigan has been the top priority for longer than the past 10 years.

My read on Brandon is that he's a guy who doesn't rely on nuance. He's straightforward and doesn't tolerate wrongdoing (like Bo). When Rodriguez got M in a little trouble with the NCAA, you didn't hear Brandon making excuses or pointing fingers. I think he was embarrassed even though he had nothing to do with the situation. Then he quickly cleaned house.
