Osu says the investigation will be over in 14 days. Apparently, it will take that long to negotiate with Gene Smith to be the fall guy.

I'm not so sure about that. I think UFM's statement probably indicates that OSU had him lined up for the gallows. If the dynamics are UFM vs. OSU, then it's still a very, very real possibility that he gets fired.

The other possibility is that UFM wanted something out there before ZS interview aired.

I still tend to think they're going to go where the facts take them. They're going to get shit on no matter what they do, so they might as well have a really good reason for acting.

OSU wants to keep him. They just needed the cover that his statement provided. Now they can go about the task of fixing the facts around the narrative. Someone is going to be sacrificed. Urban might get a light suspension for "not being prepared to speak about sensitive personnel issues" - even though he brought up Zach Smith's firing in his opening remarks at the Big Ten Media days.

Well, I hope you're right, but I don't have a great deal of faith in OSU to handle this correctly. FYI, UFM brought up ZS because McMurphy reported on it the day or two before and he was just fired. It was coming up regardless.

I have no dispute as to why he brought it up. My point is that he made reference to Zach Smith's firing but later said he lied (though he never used the word) because he was not prepared to talk about it. No one is buying that. The issue is being framed now by fans as Urban lied to the media - Who cares? - but the question is why was Zach Smith retained? OSU has 38 million reasons not to fire UFM. I don't know if he did report the 2015 incident upstairs or not. Is he lying? Can he prove it? Can anyone prove that he didn't report it? Maybe a secretary will be let go because she "misplaced" a document. Who the hell knows how this is going to be spun. But the committee doing the investigation now has given themselves 2 weeks to come up with something that sounds plausible.

The campaign to discredit Courtney Smith by saying she's crazy isn't really a good approach either. Zach Smith made her look much more credible in his conveniently timed interview. Who's going to believe his statement that he never hit her, or that he only touched her in an attempt to leave, Sure, O.J. We've seen the marks around her throat. That's what is being considered now. How do we explain Zach Smith retention as a coach when there are pictures that Shelley Meyer was aware of? Whose head to put on the chopping block? Not the 3 time national champion coach who will fight for his $38 million. Not a chance.

Gary Moeller was fired over bullshit and there wasn't much outrage. Ann Arbor is very PC. It's been referred to as Moscow on the Huron.
