  • McCaffrey is plenty athletic, he's a read-option QB and rushed for 1100+ yards in his junior/senior seasons combined. Very much a threat to run, what's more important is his pocket presence of knowing when to throw it and when to take off rushing.

      He looked slow.

      • Martell is really good. He's been downgraded because of his size, but whenever he competes against other top QBs, he's right at the top. Even OSU fans just assume he'll never play ... Haskins then Jones. Kid is a competitor with good arm strength and outstanding accuracy.

I know that's a plug for Martell, but I also think it put s McCaffrey more into perspective. This shit is totally Tater's wheelhouse. Tons of 7v7s, playing with and against elite talent his whole career. DM didn't do as many 7v7s and his competition is crap. It's expected he'd look a little less than awesome with the huge step up in talent. JMO.

            No prognostications. Just observations.

There were two QBs that stood out as I watched the game. McCaffery wasn't one of them.

            • Tate playing against top talent everyday in practice at Bishop Gorman (whose absolutely loaded) has had to help Martell a good deal... McCaffrey was a 3-sport athlete which might've slowed his development...

JTB is a senior next season, Speight is just a rs-junior next year... McCaffrey will get an extra year of learning the playbook and the speed of the college game before he's likely to see the field... Both will be surrounded by excellent talent and will have to compete with excellent talent just to see the field. Both will have highly regarded QB's in front of them and will have highly regarded QB's recruited after them...

I really, really like both of them (worthy 5-stars imo) and expect both of them to be good to excellent B1G QB's; Tate's certainly more ready and has a higher floor than McCaffrey but potential they'd likely grade out really close.

                  • Haskins, IMO, but Burrow wouldn't surprise me at all

                      • Calvin committing to Oregon state over UNL is surprising. I guess he wanted to stay west. His "rational" was Oregon State has a history of putting small WR's in the league. Umm.. that coach is in Lincoln.

I still think he'd flip to other schools like USC, ND, UCLA if given the chance.

                          • Yeah, I'm not sure what to make of that.

In any event, choosing Anderson over Riley is probably a mistake. And I would think UNL is a better program than Corvalis Tech, but recruiting is a funny game.

Still waiting on Lattimore and Samuel. I can't imagine Lattimore coming back -- he's projected as a top 15, even top 10 pick. I think there's a credible chance Samuel does.
