Sixth, I think DSL will get his wish. Lots of rumors that Beck will join Herman at Texas. Also lots and lots of smoke that Kevin Wilson will come in as OC. (talent)
Watched the game with Doug and Terri Dillon at our place last night. Doug's early comment was how much ufm probably missed tom herman. Both of us were astounded at the unfathomable offensive game plan and play calling as the game unfolded.
It appeared that ufm didn't think they could run the IZ base against Clemson's D. I question that strategy whatever it was other than incoherent - totally unlike a ufm coached team. If Clemson's scheme was actually forcing jtb to throw to parts of the field he's not good at, that's one thing but, like you, we were shocked that when Clemson put 8 in the box and showed cover 2 zone then switched to man, plays that take advantage of that scheme (short pass plays into the middle zone), weren't called.
Instead, what we saw were jet sweeps and some tosses to samuel in the flat - flat out played right into Clemson's defensive strengths both at DT and LBs/Hybrid S. We also saw the air go out of the balloon as players realized they were getting trucked. Where was the grit? At least M fought back.
Anyway, the three of us enjoyed the ass wailing. We think osu will be way better in 2017 jtb at QB or not and my lead off quote is the most important take-away from your post-game posts. Kevin Wilson is the perfect OC for the skill set and talent that's on the osu roster right now.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
It was astoundingly bad. It's one thing for Clemson to take away the few things you actually do with some level of competence. It's another to entirely give up on those things before the game even starts and try to do things you're not particularly good at.
It makes no difference to the outcome. But it would have been nice to at least go out "swinging" with the only shit you do ok. I mean, they were a clownshow in all other aspects, too -- 4 trips inside the 30 (2 inside the 20) and zero points.
Offensively they're sort of stuck, IMO, with the players they have. They don't have great WRs and they don't have a strong-armed QB. So UFM and his staff made the decision to maximize what they do well and run the shit out of things between the tackles. I don't fault him for that. I think that's probably the right decision. They don't have the personnel to crush teams passing. They don't have Deshaun Watson and Mike Williams and bunch of other really good WRs. They do have a QB that can run the ball really well in between tackles.
However, going forward every QB on their roster is a pass first guy. They're not coming to OSU to run the ball 25 times a game. They're coming to spin the ball. They're still able to run, but more like 5 times a game. That's where the offense is absolutely going. That's where it has to go. I'm not confident Beck/Warriner can get them there. I feel pretty good about Wilson, though. So, I'm hoping he does, in fact, come aboard.
Anyway, I think my assessment of the team has been fairly spot on all year. I don't think they're as bad as 31-0 -- it would be hard for them to play much worse. But, they're a fundamentally flawed team and they're not close to Clemson or Alabama. So, it's far easier to live with this season than last.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
That game demnstrates why we so desperately needed to beat OSU this year. This was probably Urban's worst team at OSU and they won't be in this position again for among time.
