I'm not sure what the deal with Simmons is -- was he told to find a better fit or did he want out?
I know he snuck off to EL for a visit that OSU got wind of and it certainly didn't help his case. I mean, if you're Shaun Wade you can go to Tuscaloosa 76 times, but when you're the lowest ranked recruit in OSU's class, well, you're fungible.
I also know they love Pete Werner. They kept on recruiting him even after he verbaled to ND because, well, you never know. Lo and behold, South Bend is a shitfire and Werner has decommitted. This is the kid that they'll take to fill Simmons' spot.
They're also getting Browning, but that's not why Simmons is out.
So, my educated guess is this -- Simmons little trip to EL created a lack of confidence at OSU that he'd hold his verbal. The opening with Werner made it possible for OSU to "allow" Simmons to seek better opportunities -- and they like Werner better.
He'll probably end up at Sparty. Which means we'll have to play him.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
Also, they lost Moretti because they wouldn't give him one of their EE spots. The kid is rehabbing an ACL and won't be able to practice at all before summer so they saw no need to waste an EE on him.
I also think they were really sold on Simmons until he sauntered off to EL. Everything I've read is that they think he's really good and wanted him. They may like Werner better, but I don't think they see it as enough of an upgrade to cut him loose for no reason.
Anyway, I like both those kids a lot and am disappointed they're not in the class. As I am with the two Hoban kids. But, man, it's recruitin' and especially so with tight numbers.

Finally -- heh -- Jerron Cage is now their lowest ranked recruit (#229 nationally) aside from their kicker. My guess is he could end up at ND if OSU miraculously hits a DT grand slam. I tend to think they go 0-fer-Wilson and Tufele, but if both want in then Cage will be out.
Marcus Wiliams is 2nd lowest at #139 nationally. I think he's pretty safe. They need DBs. Heh.

Trey Smith actually looking plausible????? He's deciding in 5 days. So Butch gets to do a full-court in home. The Nick gets to stop by. And Urbs get his crack. There's not a lot of time for him to mull things over and change his mind. Like, say, with Marvin Wilson.
Browning is still up in the air as far as I'm concerned. Alabama won't let that one go without a fight. It'll be a bitterly disappointing loss for either The Nick or UFM.
Also some positive vibes re Tufele.
This is getting stupid.

Old info but if M wanted Simmons they probably could flip him. Now he's available those I'm sure there is new information, still think M doesn't like him as much as other LB recruits they are recruiting.
