        • I appreciate that UFM is a big name coach and OSU is an elite brand, BUT....how on earth do they only drop to #6 in AP, and how on earth are they 24 point favorites against nFw?

you're right, at home against nWU, and after a loss .... should be at least 40. Would not want to be Coach Fitz right now.

                • O-state still remains #2 betting favorite behind 'Bama in odds for a national title, and ahead of M.

Because of November 26th, the fluky loss to PSU mans nothing to the Bucks ---actually maybe a positive motivator for Urbz ... used it to good effect against us last year.

                    There's probably something to this.

The one difference I see between last year and this year is that osu WAS the best CFB team when MSU beat them in another fluky game that ufm was inexplicably and worse than tressel ball conservative.

Moreover, given the talent level of meyer's 2015 team, they played like shit until M came to town. They've played OK in 2016, got tested and seemed to get better every week ..... until playing PSU.

Despite that, osu is not nearly as good this year as last and I saw a touch of that inexplicable conservatism in ufm playing at HV in 2016. A trend?

Hard to say. I think HC conservatism, not just with ufm, but with all good coaches who have a sense for their players, springs from the week of practice before a game. Maybe ufm just didn't feel it; wasn't comfortable with clubbing baby seals when he had the opportunity. Dunno but he didn't.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                    • My only general criticism is too few touches for Samuel. My specific criticism is the FG attempt and plays leading thereto. Otherwise, it's "shit happens."

I can only say it so many times, but the WR play males it difficult to be aggressive downfield. Last night JTB had a ton of completions into really, really tight windows. I thought he played really well, but it's tough to say without seeing full 22 tape.

They're obviously not as good as they were last year. This is their down year. The hope was that JTB could be good enough for them to be league competitive.

                      • No idea how many touches he got last week, or any week, but you'd think you'd try to get him close to 20 yeah?

                        • I think it was 24 (or 14) plays till Samuel touched the ball (?) Urban was asked about it he said other teams are keying on him.

                            • Good point on the WRs, talent.

No question, jtb was firing darts very accurately in the short zone but I have to say, I thought PSU's D did a good job of squeezing those down and you can be damn sure, M's D is going to do that too.

jtb did have a couple of nice downfield throws to wide open receivers as a result of how PSU played the short zone. I have a lot of confidence in how Lewis and Stribbling are going to play v that sort of throw. He's going to have tight windows 20 yards out and I'm not sure he's good enough with those throws nor are his receivers going to beat M's coverage ...... but, at this point in time, the way both teams seem to be playing, that is going to be a key thing to do if osu is going to beat M.

Agree with your assessment of shit happens. It was definitely one of those games and something M has not encountered and is likely to encounter ....... either at EL or Iowa. Even maybe against IU or Maryland in AA. But, as you have pointed out M hasn't really been tested on the road against a competent opponent and by my calculus the home field advantage will accrue to both MSU and Iowa, both over-matched opponents who are not particularly competent. So, there is that.

It's going to come down to meeting osu in c-bus ..... an away game against a competent opponent. Their first real test, I guess with osu being 2-1 in those circumstances.

                              • If it makes any difference to you at this sad moment in your life, heh, re the coaches (no noting) poll conducted by guys who get paid to vote for their HCs ....... I think osu is better than both Neb and Baylor (level of competition, quality wins) and I'm pretty sure Wisconsin will ably demonstrate that by beating Neb next weekend.

I like the AP poll better. I think osu is right where they belong at #6.

                                Still ......

                                Fuck osu.
