  • Let me chime in on this, since I have personal experience.

The reason for the 30 minute lightening rule is that there are documented cases where a lightening bolt from a thunderhead from over 20 miles away has struck and killed people on an athletic field, or open area. Multiple cases. So, therefore, the rule that all visible lightening has to have been gone for at least 30 minutes before a game can resume.

And, where there is thunder, there is lightening. It matters not if its cloud-to-cloud or whatever. If it thunders, there was lightening, even if the lightening was not seen. The game gets suspended. Safety is paramount.

Now, back to your regular programming. *poof*

    • Oracle is correct, IMO, but I get the need for safety with 100,000 people sitting on aluminum bench seats.

Mercifully missed most of the first half. Initial grades: Offense C- and Defense A-.

They're going to need WRs to make plays to have a chance in Norman.

      • I am not so worried about the Buckeye WRs. The first half of the Tulsa game was super windy, and the second half was super wet.

        • Wasn't any windier than AA.

          • The offense was pretty bad. In particular, 3rd down conversions were really bad. And I can think of 3 or 4 where the ball was on the hands in relatively tight coverage but they didn't make the play. That's a little bit of a bummer.

Tulsa is, IMO, a definite upgrade over BG. You couldn't just run skeleton against them. But, still...they're most likely a middling AAC team.

Defense is where I had the biggest concerns coming into the season. I thought DT, in particular, and the B7 would be very problematic. I'm modestly encouraged by the showing thus far. They've yet to give up a TD. That said, my concerns are against the spread. The newbie LBs are going to have to play in space and the secondary will get tested. Then you have DTs who probably need to eat up 1.5 blockers, but can't. So--yeah--OU is a completely different ballgame. I think UFM's frustratingly narrow misses on stud DTs will show.

                            • Ohio State is currently -1' at Norman for some inexplicable reason. More troubling is the reverse line movement from 3 down to 1'. The money is coming in Ohio State but the line is going down. Vegas knows the sharps are going to unload on the Sooners.
