  • For those interested, the depth chart for BG:

    QB: JTB
    RB: Weber
    H-Back: Curtis Samuel
    WR: Noah Brown
    WR: Corey Smith
    WR: Terry McClaurin
    LT: Jamarco Jones
    LG: Michael Jordan
    C: Efflein
    RG: Billy Price
    RT: Isaiah Prince

In terms of skill players, Samuel will get lots of touches -- probably more than Weber. Johnnie Dixon, Austin Mack and KJ Hill should definitely be in the WR rotation. Noah Brown is the man at WR, though -- he was actually playing as a true frosh at the end of 2014 and was set to play a big role last year. On the offensive line the biggest takeaway is Michael Jordan starting. He beat out a redshirt frosh, Matt Burrell. The disappointment is probably that Demetrius Knox hasn't won the position -- he's in the rotation, but he should be a starter. The tackles are inexperienced by very talented. They really like Prince, who didn't redshirt last year.

    DE: Sam Hubbard
    DT: Tracy Sprinkle
    DT: Michael Hill
    DE: Tyquan Lewis
    Sam: Chris Worley
    Mike: Raekwon
    Will: Donte Booker
    CB: Conley
    CB: Marshon Lattimore
    S: Damon Webb
    S: Malik Hooker

On the DL, Jayln Holmes will also play a huge role at DE and I expect both Nick Bosa and Johnathan Cooper to play as true frosh -- because they're that good. As good as the DEs are, well, the DTs....hmmmm. Thin. They may be able to rotate 4 total players there, but none of them are game-changers. The one area where OSU has just missed out in recruiting, and it shows. For LBs, I'm not concerned about athleticism at all. Really like Worley and Booker (and Jerome Baker). But those are positions where experience really matters so I expect some real growing pains. As for the secondary, I'm somewhat bullish on the youth. I really like Hooker and Lattimore. And I like Denzel Ward as the 3rd CB and I like Erick Smith as a 3rd safety. Also, Jordan Fuller makes the 2-deep as a true frosh.

As I was going through this, one thing that struck me is the relatively high "success" rate with the kids UFM pulled from the State of M. Weber, Jordan and Webb are all set to start, and the first 2, for sure, have really bright futures.

    • Two question, talent:

If, as you say, the RBs will get less carries than the H-backs, that implies a lot of short passing plays. Is that making up for a decrease in run efficiency with the loss of Elliot?

You're concern about the interior DL is noted. Also growing pains for the LBs. So, are we talking about teams being able to run between the tackles on osu? That has never been easy for teams playing osu.

      • I think Samuel is the best playmaker on the team not named JTB. So, I think he'll get the most touches. His touches will come from H-Back as well as RB. I also think they need to ease Weber into the offense. They are remarkably thin at RB. They have a true frosh backing up a redshirt frosh.

I like the starting DTs + McMillan up the middle. They don't have a lot of depth there, though. If, e.g., Michael Hill gets hurt, that's a problem. That said, they're not going to eat up blockers, I don't think. Not enough. So I think teams can scheme to get blockers to the 2nd level. I also think the two outside LBs will make mistakes in angles, reads, etc. Coupled with dealing with more 2nd level blocking, that can be problematic.

My big concern is spread teams forcing young guys to do everything correctly. I'm less concerned about the LBs against Wisconsin. I'm petrified that Oklahoma will rip off huge chunk plays.

          • Lots of very good young talent for the Buckeyes, those top 1-3 recruiting classes sure help to reload after guys leave after three years.

Good write up. I would add Parris Campbell to the list of starting WRs though. Or at least guys expected to contribute in a big way. This year's depth chart was odd when it came to the receivers, but during media availability (I think Urban's Thursday radio call-in show actually) he called him a starter.

              • Yeah. Campbell in for McLaurin. All sorts of talent except for catching. Heh. Hopefully that's coming around.

                • 456 total yards in the first half. Acceptable

                  • Sprinkle out for the season. The one position where depth is catastrophically thin.

Otherwise, Bowling Green is for shit. Either they put up 35 and 450 in the 1st half as expected or they don't and there's cause for concern. Worthless game.

                            • he is a douche, but a douche who knows his team is going to roll a massively over-rated OU squad.
