  • No, Mike, my snakes are actually not named after Buckeye football players. But I do have a theme for naming them, which is a NASA/space theme. Two of my snakes that I had previously that died of old age were named Titan and Apollo. Two that I have now are Saturn and Comet. My boa Rocky was originally my oldest son's pet but he was gifted to me when my son moved to Houston and couldn't take him with him, and my son had named him.

    • So that one is your youngest son? If I recall correctly, you brought him with you on your last visit to the Big House for a Spring game. It may have been the Spring Game before R Rod's final season. You and I were interviewed by a reporter from the Free Press, because one was a Michigan fan and one was a OSU fan, and we were sitting together. Our kids got into some good smack talk as well.

It was a very cold day but we had a great time.

      • Liney, you remember correctly. That was my youngest son Stephen with me the last time I was at the Big House for the spring game. Great memories.

          • It's good to be back. I've missed several consecutive football seasons where I could have been reminding you who the best team in the conference is. Do you Wolverweenies even remember what it's like to beat the Buckeyes or the Spartans?

            • Not really, no.

The last time we beat OSU, you still had a mop of hair akin to that of Ringo Starr in his Beatle days... and that was also the last time I smoked a cigar.

                • This year is when it gets interesting. Seven games into this season, Michigan will be 7-0. Meanwhile, Ohio State will be 6-1. A really talented but inexperienced Buckeye team will have a tough loss on the road at highly ranked Oklahoma, while Michigan won't have played anybody of consequence yet. But because Michigan is undefeated, many in the media will be gushing about how Michigan is back, and how they're basically a lock for a playoff spot. That's when reality sets in, because Michigan will lose three of its last five games to the Spartans, Hawkeyes, and Buckeyes, finishing 9-3. No B1G championship game. Another second tier bowl down south against the SEC. Just remember I said all of this to remind you of what is going to happen this season. Dont forget it when you're 7-0 media darlings.

                    • Michigan is not going to lose all 3 to MSU, Iowa and OSU.

They will play at least two teams of consequence early on. Wisconsin and Penn State in successive weeks will be no cake walk. Doesn't matter if they're in AA. Those are going to be two tough games.

                      • Looks like OSU just lost a promising receiver for the season. Torrance Gibson was suspended from the school (not just the football program). Evidently Urban is upset and disagrees with the suspension.

                        • It's the culture of the campus. Once you're accused of sexual harassment your guilty until proven innocent. Oh well. Lots of depth at WR and Gibson wasn't in the 2-deep.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
                          Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

Hurts much more for 2017. Due to the nature of the suspension, he is not able to practice or be around the team at all. So no weight lifting, football classroom work, or practice field work. This is a redshirt freshman who up until 12 months ago was an athletic freak playing QB, but now turned to WR. So every second in practice, watching tape, etc. is crucial for him. Now even if he does come back next year, it's a true year wasted. Instead of a guy who would have gotten his feet wet this year (maybe 200-300 yards or so) and propelled himself to a potential 600-800 yard guy next year, he'll still be very raw in 2017.

And even having said that, the loss will be felt some this year IMO. Not a great deal, but some. He has potential to be a deep threat with size, which OSU may have, but I'm not sure of it.

Edit: Looking back at 2014 stats (2015 isn't as comparable to what I expect from the 2016 passing game as 2014 does, mainly because 2015 had established Zeke), I'd probably adjust my estimated figures above down a little. But the premise still stands.

                            • Yeah, I'm not sure he'll ever play for Ohio State. He can rejoin the team in Winter semester, but we'll see if he makes it.

I'm not worried about WR. Austin Mack is a superstar in the making. I think Victor is pretty close to Mack. Grimes and Lindsey are in the 2-deep from day 1 next season. But, I'd definitely like to see what Gibson can do.

                              • I have no inside information on Torrance Gibson, but we all know that big name schools such as Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, FSU, etc. don't throw their football recruits and players away without good cause. Most of the time, they are given too much benefit of the doubt.
