  • I liked Dunn. I think he's a solid player. I think he would have got a fair number of carries this year, and I'd have been fine with that. Unfortunately for him, Carlos Hyde was there we he arrived and then he got beat out/passed by Elliot. If he were there, say, in 2003/04 he'd have easily beat out the great Lydell Ross and probably rushed for 1200+ per season in Tresselball.

Oh well. He's definitely not a star and I think the feeling was very much that Weber has gads more upside, so next man up!

    • Friday Night Lights is tonight. It's a little amateur hour compared to the BBQ, but that's life at the kiddie table in the shadow.

In any event, I don't expect any announced commits, but it's a good chance to firm up things with some big names. Right now it's entirely reasonable to think OSU will land TEN kids in the top 45 of the 247 Composite. That's 22% of the top 45. Outside chance at 11, but I think that's too optimistic -- e.g. Shaun Wade is still teetering; it seems unlikely to get BOTH Akers and Dobbins, etc.

      • I could be wrong re commits. Chase Young could make it official. Young is a WDE and #27 overall in the 247 Composite. Also, Amir Riep is committing this weekend and almost certainly to OSU. However, he's #119 overall in the composite and will drag OSU's average down a touch. Young and Riep would bump OSU 16 verbals up to 285.12 in the 247 Composite. For reference, HARBAUGH!!!!!'s legendary 2016 class including the #1 recruit in the country and 29 total commits rated 283.18 in the 247 Composite.

        Life in the shadow.

        • For near future reference, Young and Riep and then Grimes and Lindsey would put OSU at 302.33.

                • Riep makes it official. Onward to Lindsey then Grimes. And after that you may have to be top 40 overall to get a look.

                  • Looks like Emory Jones will commit soon. He's a 2018 QB from Georgia, and is currently #40 overall and #2 Dual. He'll join Brian Snead (RB-Florida, #76 overall). And he's way more concrete than Snead so he'll be the anchor/leader of the class.

It seems unlikely that they'll match their 2017 class, but this is a good start. And with at least 4 kids in the top 30 that I think are way heavy OSU leans, UFM won't be far off.

So, decent days off in The Shadow.

                          • Pity. As you may remember I made the trip in 2002 to see the epic showdown between Tyler Watts and Nate Hybl.
