That Illinois defensive line. Whoa. When you see future All Big 10 offensive tackle Nick Gates hook a guy on the first play and hope he doesn’t get called for a hold, you know it’s going to be a long day. Gates has been an absolute animal this year, but he had his hands full all day with Illini end Carroll Phillips. And as Husker fans witnessed all too frequently, the other side fared even worse, with Dawuane Smoot living in the Nebraska backfield for a large portion of the game.

There are small factions of Nebraska fans that do prefer the Big 8 (however Colorado, Missouri are gone now) but there are far, far more who want nothing to do with Texas and the Big XII.

Some desire to switch conference will usually be the case for a program that borders more than one conference. Nebraska borders 4; Pac 12, B1G, Big XII & SEC... Kansas borders 4 (B1G, Big XII, Pac 12 & SEC)... Missouri borders 3 (B1G, Big XII & SEC) or 3.5 if you count Louisville/ACC... Virginia borders ACC, B1G and SEC...

When asked.. that group usually will talk about closer away games with KU, KSU, ISU, etc.. It's about the distance to travel more than anything else.

UNL isn't going anywhere. You get one booster or alumni to say he or she wishes "X" and bloggers or radio hosts run with it.. so do administrators.

This always gets brought up by some jackass or another, who, it should be noted, is never actually a Nebraska fan himself. ?Most Husker fans secretly want back into the Big 12...?

Let me put this to rest right now: Bullshit.

Of all the Nebraskans that I know, I could not name a single one that feels this way. None of my family. None of my friends. None of my classmates from high school or college. I am sure if you polled enough fans you?d find some, but it would be a rare bird. We hated the Big 12.

Granted, everybody bemoans the lengths of the road trips, but that?s a far, far cry from pining to rejoin the Big 12...and at the same time, they all offer the caveat that the shorter road trips in the Big 12 were awful. JMO, but nobody stood more to lose in this regard than Husker fans in Kansas City, like entropy and I. We were a 3-hour drive, or less, from Lincoln, Ames, Columbia, Manhattan and Lawrence. Hell, when I first moved to KC it took longer to get to work than to KU?s campus. But we both supported the move wholeheartedly, and still do.

Like I said before, this is just pot-stirring and wishful thinking by desperate, unhappy people. Its grown well past old IMO, but I don?t suspect this drek is going to dry up and blow away anytime soon.
